By this chart Id say we are a mediocre team, with a 5-5 record, thats pretty mediocre no?

No you've misunderstood me. I CERTAINLY expected the Jets to beat the Broncos, I just thought it would be close.

We are what our record is: 5-5 and mediocre.

Our wins are against an SD team in freefall, trashy Jaguars and Dolphins teams, a Cowboys team that literally handed us the game on a silver platter, and a mediocre Bills team. 4 of those wins are at home.

We can't win on the road. Our defense has allowed way too many backbreaking drives (Dallas, New England 2x, Oakland), and our offense is just abysmal.

The season isn't over. But it's on the brink. I think 10-6 will get us in, but that's no guarantee, and one of our losses would almost assuredly have to be to an NFC team (Eagles or Giants).

You're being nice with that one.
-Harris is a beast most games but when Bart Scott isn't playing at his top game, he's just another player that OCs can avoid.
-Every LB on the roster is a liability in coverage either due to speed, talent or experience.
-Pace has lost a step and Bart Scott can't take on the outside rush like we need him to.
-The rotation where Thomas would be are all one-dimensional players. Westerman has been a little better at the run but not that much.

I'd say mediocre. We're going to need at least one new starter in the LB corps next season, and I don't mean anyone currently on the roster today.

Can this somehow involve a burning orphanage? I feel it would be more rational if it involved a burning orphanage.

Just be sure to completely rationalize it, however you can.

well, the problem with that evaluation is positions are interrelated.

Our offensive line is a big part of the reason most of our other offensive positions are mediocre. just like having a better linebacking core could help our safeties. it's not really the way to evaluate the team

But that's how the Sun-Sentinel does it, so it must be right!

The entire orphanage was about to be adopted by Jets fans. I'm saving the children from a life of pain and woe.

As a SOJF last night was just what I needed I can now relax for the rest of the season following a mediocre team that wins some and loses just as many is nothing to get excited about and I can focus on my true love of questioning the jets draft picks

Rex's shtick is getting old, he is a good DC not a good HC, Sanchez simply blows and is going to waste the prime of what good players we have and we will not see a SB opportunity for another 5 years minimum

I can now concentrate on important things like getting the pacifist achievement on deus ex and write off the jets for another year

    Positions are interrelated.

The problem is we don't have one elite unit that can make up for the rest.

Receiver, you can at least make an argument for. But we don't have an elite WR; Holmes is good, but he needs help. Plaxico has played better lately, but Kerley is below average as a #3 right now, and the rest are totally unproven. Would be nice to see either one make a big play after the catch, or get separation more consistently.

Tight end is below average, as I mentioned in another thread. A better OL would make Keller look better, but at the same time, a better blocking TE would make the OL look better.

The runningbacks are definitely mediocre. Greene is a complimentary back. McKnight is a complimentary back. Hopefully, Powell is more than that, but I doubt it.

And finally, quarterback is mediocre as well. Sanchez makes an awful decision every single game that leads to points to the other team, and he leaves a lot of plays on the field.

If the offensive line were better, it would make everything else look better. Just like it did the last 2 years. But our offense was still pretty average last year and worse the year before.

If the quarterback were better, it would make everyone else look better.

If the receivers were better, it would make everyone else look better, since Sanchez would be able to get the ball out more quickly, and teams would fear our WRs more.

If the tight ends were better, everyone else would look better.

If the runningbacks were better, it would make the running game work better, the OL look better, and open things up for the passing game.

It's all interrelated, as you said. That's what I love about football. The biggest problems are with the OL and the QB. But it's not like they're holding back juggernaut backs and receivers.

Oh, and if the coaching were better, maybe the offense would look better, too.

In a few weeks we'll be sitting at 8-5, we may lose to either Philly or the giants. Then close out with a win against the dolphins.

    That's me being optimistic.
