I give him till next year and hopefully the accuracy improves as he has a lot of off season to work with.
That is another entirely flawed way of thinking too that is rampant on this board. One has nothing to do with the other. I can guarantee, we have no Elway here in Sanchez. And what similarities do you see exactly? Look at his play not his numbers. Mark Sanchez cant throw a football anywhere near the way Elway could. Mark Sanchez cannot scramble anywhere near the way Elway could. silliness
The thing with Sanchez is, even if he never gets better than middle of the pack, I don't think the Jets going to redevelop a new franchise QB. He's proven he can win with a solid defense, it's much more likely, given the current front office and coach, that they'll get the best they can out of Sanchez and focus on building a dominant defensive team.
This reminds me of something else - he didn't have a full offseason, either. This especially hurts by compounding the significant personnel turnover.
That article was a good read! The QB spot is the one that entails more intangibles than any other on the field of play. One of these is maturity. Mark is like a kid out there sometimes and that's because...he's young! What were these QBs doing when they were the same age Mark is now? *Tom Brady: Won the SB after taking over for the injured Bledsoe. *John Elway: Coming off of his first two (lousy) years as a starter. His upcoming 3rd year would see him toss the ball for a whopping 3, 891 yds while getting 22TDs and 23INTs. *Aaron Rodgers: still riding the pine as a back-up in GB. Mark will never be in the class that those guys are, but, seriously, he gets another season to show what he's made of.
No shit, Elways aren't born every day. Can you guarantee Sanchez won't have a season with 90+ QB rating? If I had to pick, I'd say he will have a 90+ QB rating year. He was very inexperienced when he came out of college and has been getting better every year. When he plays well, the D shits the bed. He's not going to carry the team on his own any time soon, but he has a great potential yet to be achieved. You know what else is rampant on this board? People who think Rome was built in a day!
If you keep giving up on quarterbacks because they aren't Joe Montana your franchise will most likely always fail.
I am not ready to give up on him yet, but I do think it's telling that pretty much EVERYONE that is not a Jet's fan thinks he sucks and will never lead the Jets to a SB.
It's odd that since the offensive line has fallen apart, the blame is squarely on Sanchez and Greene. We need to find offensive superstars that don't need blocking.
If the Jets fall out of it this year I'd expect the entire offensive staff to be fired in the off-season. That'd be like McCarthy firing the entire defensive staff after his second season and the Packers basically took the next step up at that point. The question isn't who on the offensive side should take Schotty's place. The question really is: is anybody on that side of the ball good enough to coach at a championship level given what we've seen over the last few years? Callahan gets a lot of props for his work with the linemen but this season is like a nightmare of calamities for his rep on that score. Ducasse hasn't developed, Hunter has been exposed and Slauson is still not a particularly good LG after three years in the system. The people who are working out are the people who were here before he arrived.
Stats really dont tell the whole story though... I mean Sanchez and Brady both have a bunch of INTs, but theres a big difference between throwing ints while making big plays, tipped balls, and just horrifically thrown balls. Hell YAC could have huge impacts on passing yards as well. Sanchez looks truly GREAT sometimes, but theres so many absolutely fucking horrific games that this guy has also. Some of the worst games ive ever seen from any QB EVER. Against the 32nd ranked defense @ home he looked like dog shit (partially to blame on his blockers). But hell im sure most of us remember games vs N.O, the Bills (5 ints?) which have to go down as some of the worst games by a qb ever. If nothing else id like to see this guy be consistent
No response necessary. Point is, other teams fans are a pretty poor barometer of how good our guy is.
It seems like everyone is trying to polarize views on sanchez into two camps, those who think he is peyton manning, and those who think he is Ryan Leaf. There is middle ground here; will he improve? Yes he will, that is not even a question in my mind, the quesiton in my mind is how long is this team willing to wait for him to develop into a QB who can carry the team if he needs to? Becuase clearly he is nowhere near that point, not even close. It took 2 regime changes and 6 seasons for Alex Smith to actually show signs of life, can we wait that long for Sanchez? I don't think we can; I think this franchise hit the jackpot twice getting Rex here and drafting Revis, we cannot let this oppourtunity go to waste. Revis will be wanting a new contract soon, as will other players, this core group will not be together for long; the time to win is now. But is Sanchez ready for this time? I don't think he is; he has poise and the clutch gene, but it takes more than that to hoist the trophy.
