This is only slightly less ridiculous than the Cynic analysis. Maybin is on the DL now? The Rex Ryan hype machine?

    Ugh.

I think BookendTackles was saying he is starting to lose faith in Ellis' case being resolved promptly/favorably.

I'm going to take that as a complement

and you know why I mentioned Maybin in that group
he is used primarily as a 3rd down pass rusher and often sets up in the 3pt stance

the OLB/DE hybrid that Rex loves so much

Immediately contradicting yourself is always a good way to show your opinion should be valued.

Not really sure why you would do that?

He was pretty much pointing out you don't know what you are talking about.

Ellis, and amazingly enough Maybin are the only ones who show signs of one day not being average (meaning they show promise and should become very good)

Jury is still out on wilkerson (could go either way. could be very good or very bad)

    75/25 on maybin and ellis
    50/50 on wilkerson

Even if this is accurate (it isn't) you are still contradicting yourself. No one else has shown signs of not being average yet Wilkerson has shown enough for you to give him a chance at being very good.

I would be excited to see our starting DL as follows:

    DT - Wilkerson
    NT - Ellis
    DT - Pitoitua

And having Devito Spelling DT & Pouha spelling Ellis.

The 3 starters should take up enough blockers to free up our linebackers, and generate more pass rush.

DeVito and Pouha are above Ellis and Ropati right now

Doing that would kill the run defense.

Sorry, I didn't mean "would" but "will" implying future. I agree.

The ceiling is much higher for our young players, and can't wait till they take over the reigns.

    EDIT

Actually I completely butchered that post. I was attempting to portray late this year, or next year.

Didn't know 3-4 linemen were supposed to rush the passer.

I like the potential of our DL and they've shown flashes individually. The LBs can't be the lone reason that the run D has been leaky, though, the DL has had bad moments vs the run as well.

That being said, I think the run D will improve as the season goes forward and I like the long-term outlook for the DL. I have high hopes for Kenrick Ellis.

I wouldn't trade the Jets DL as currently staffed for the Cheats DL which consists pretty much of Wilfork and Garbage

Ripoti Pitoitua is just a massive human being.

at 6'8 he's gotta be the tallest player in the league

He's got nothing on the Chargers wide receivers.

According to Football Outsiders, Mike Devito was one of the better run defenders in the league in 2010. I suspect he's more hurt than he's letting on. Pouha is still Pouha. The run defense sucks because Bryan Thomas was such an important part of it last season, and he's gone. Shaun Ellis was pretty good too.

It's absurd to judge guys like Wilkerson, Ellis, Pituita, and Dixon after a few games, but they're learning on the fly, and while they've been inconsistent, I think they'll thrive later in the season and become a net positive.
