Un-fucking-believable. Too bad I wanted Texas to win. It's not Mookie and Buckner, but that game will be remembered for a long time. 2 outs, 2 strikes, 2 innings in a row.....god damn.
two decisions stand out to me by Texas -- putting Darren Oliver in to close it out is just dumbfounding. and in the 10th, why didn't the Texas 3rd baseman throw home on the grounder instead of first to prevent the 8th run? it looked like he clearly had a play at the plate to save the run.
Not to mention...2 huge decisions made by Washington, both questioned by Buck and McCarver at the time, and both moves blow up in his face. Doubles defense and pinch hitting for Feldman.
If you're going to use Feldman anyway, and why not, if you win the season's over, why not just have him start the inning? I agree completely. I can't see St. Louis losing this.
I hope you're right. That would be on par with the Red Sox losing Game 7 after Fisk's HR off the screen in the '75 WS.
Maybe he didn't want to risk a lengthy rundown where something could get screwed up (not unrealistic with all the bad defense last night) and even in a best case probably wind up with the tying run on second anyway. But yeah I don't know what Ron Washington was doing playing a no doubles defense trying to protect against losing it with one swing when his bullpen stinks and you're ONE OUT AWAY FROM WINNING IT! That's like an NFL team playing prevent defense (rushing two or three guys and dropping eight back) from the 40 on 4th and 10 worrying about the TD when if you make one stop you win the game, but if they hit an easy play underneath and get the first down they're kicking the FG to tie the game anyway.
Awesome game, one of the best in World Series history. Both teams lost and won the game several times. Hell, even the errors made it good. I don't know how many more times I can write off the Cards. I gave up on them at least 3 times last night. It sure would make a great story if they won, but the same goes for the Rangers since they've never won it.
If the Rangers dont win tonight, I think Nolan Ryan pulls a Favre and unretires and signs self beast to a 1 year deal to lead that staff
Carpenter looks like he's settling in. I don't think it matters, this thing is coming down to the 9th again.
After that first inning, you couldn't have convinced me that the Rangers weren't going to put up up about 10 runs. I can't believe they're still sitting on 2.
