His arms are too long. But he's a very good player anyway. The good ones work around their flaws. BTW, I'd be really curious if the Jets have worked a lot with Sanchez trying to shorten his throwing motion. Not that I'm an expert, because I'm not, but I keep seeing references from people who supposedly are experts on this that shortening a QB's throwing motion adversely affects accuracy and velocity on the ball.
Sanchez hasn't been in the position to win games for the team, so those stats are slightly misleading. We've been a run first, conservative offense, moreso than most teams. That said, he's definitely improving. He played well last week. He needs to play better early in games, but if he plays like he did last week, I will be happy with him. He's still got to keep making strides, but he has played better from one regular season to the next.
You took that out of context. I said he was currently going through a streak where he's committing no or very little turnovers. One in the last three games. Compared to I dont even want to say in the first four. But have your little games pretending Mark Sanchez is the next John Elway.
The offense we run doesn't really matter given the numbers in the list. 23 starts and something like 730-740 throws is what all of the contemporaries except for Roethlisberger, Brees and Manning had. The Jets are throwing the ball just as much as the Ravens, Falcons and Bucs have and only a throw a game less than the Chargers did with Brees. Two throws a game less than the Giants with Manning. The Roethlisberger stats are impacted by his motorcyce accident before season two which took 4 games off the front of that season. He'd be in the low 600's in throws for the period other than that. His total meltdown when the Steelers went pass-first in 2006 is indicative of what happens to a young QB when he gets put out front like that. All of the QB's in this list threw a bunch of picks early in their third season, except for Sanchez and Flacco.
I agree that Flacco sucks this year, but Sanchez was much worse against Baltimore than Flacco last night - lower completion percentage, lower yards per attempt, fewer TDs, and more turnovers.
Flacco wasn't facing the Ravens front 7 with Ed Reed in play also. And his all-pro Center wasn't out with an injury at the worst possible time.
Did you watch the fucking game or did you just look at his numbers? Flacco was absolutely horrible for the first three quarters. That was one of the worst performances by a QB that I've ever seen.
I think it's fair to include Bradford on that list too, even though he's only in season #2 because it helps to prove your point, Bradford 786 passes, 17 interceptions, 2.2 pct. Bradford's numbers this year also demonstrate that he has fallen off his numbers from last year as his QB rating, completion %, and TDs are way down. By contrast, Sanchez has shown steady improvement in QB rating, completion %, yards/game, and TD/INT ratio in his each of his three years. Hell, even his rushing stats are trending upwards this year. His sacks and fumbles are up, but I attribute that primarily to poor line play. Right now, he's on pace for 295/528, 55.8%, 3531 yds, 27 TDs, 14 INTs and a QB rating of 83. That's not Aaron Rodgers, but it's a solid NFL QB who is steadily improving. Keep in mind that he has also had to deal with a revolving door at WR in each of his three years, which makes his numbers even more impressive.
Fair enough. Sanchez QB rating @ Baltimore: 35.1 Flacco QB rating @ Jax: 61 I would argue that playing in Baltimore is much more of a challenge than playing in Jacksonville this season, as evidenced by their respective records. Also, our OLine was a complete mess that night and Sanchez had little or no time to throw. Statistically, Sanchez has been MUCH better than Flacco in just about every category this year. Despite these excuses, you are right, Sanchez did suck in Baltimore more than Flacco did last night against a team we destroyed in week 2. P.S. Flacco's QB rating at home against the Jets in week 4 was 37.4. In case your wondering.
I mean am I right here, it seems every year this kid Matthew is getting hurt,, He is the better of them all from 2009. Let any of those other QB's take the punisment Sanchez took against Baltimore and see if any of them would have continued to play... MARK got killed and never gave up... The Jets made the right choice with MS. Screw the others.
i think some of us harsher sanchez critics are waiting for him to start showing some flashes of dominance. Hes for sure shown flashes of being good, now he has to show that he can take a team on his back and start scoring alot.
It'd be nice to see but the Jets aren't built to do that kind of thing. High powered offenses usually require 4 or 5 WR sets and pass-catching backs working out of the gun. The jets are a T.o.P. offense that focuses on the run and ball-control. They had enough trouble getting a third receiver into the mix this year let alone a fourth or fifth. No deep threat either.
couldn't have said it better! sanchez played ok, but lets not get carried away. top 10 qb? in your dreams. if there were only 12 teams in the nfl, maybe, otherwise "forget about it"!
+1 Flacco is a year older than Sanchez and doesn't hold a candle to him. It's not even close anymore.
How many championships has Tom Brady won since his team put everything on him and had him chuck the ball all over the place 50 times a game?
