Wow. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/football/ncaa/10/14/mountainwest.conferenceusa.merger.ap/ Edit: mods could you take COL out of the title, posted this off my phone. Thank you.
According to ESPN they are targeting 2013 for the merger. Boise State, Air Force and UCF approved the merger but will be invited to join the Big East.
I'm pretty sure I'm the only guy on here that supports an MWC school although I know we have a few UCF fans on here as well but I want to vomit. I truly do. The rumor I'm hearing is that they are expecting to be down to 18 teams because Boise, UCF, SMU, Houston and Air Force will not be part of this and the West is going to add San Jose State. They are then going to do 3 "pods" East: ECU, USM, Marshall, UAB, Tulane, Memphis Central: Wyoming, New Mexico, Tulsa, Utep, Colorado State, Rice West: UNLV, SDSU, Fresno, Hawaii, Nevada, San Jose State Each team plays a nine-game schedule consisting of five games against division mates and two each against members of the other two divisions. The two highest-ranked division winners go to the championship game. That still leaves 3 OOC games to be scheduled as well. Fucking awful....
I do apologize man, I menat a school that is currently playing in the MWC. don't worry, next you join the list of schools in the conference that is leaps and bounds ahead of UNLV. Thank God for New Mexico New Mexico... helping UNLV not look like the worst program in college football since 2008.
I actually really enjoy MWC games and think their conference is underrated (as far as if you want to watch a good football game) Is Boise leaving a definite? Because they were one of the few teams I saw ESPN say voted on approving this merger.
Being a native and back now, I pull for UNLV second only to Ole Miss. This is shit to the tenth power. The last time a collegiate conference was successful with over 16 teams was never.
I've heard mixed things about Boise but it sounds like they are going to stay. Based on what I've heard from a few Southern Miss fans say apparently Boise was one of the teams pushing for this merger (although maybe it would make them look better if they did bolt) but I don't know why they would vote if not. Neither WVU or Louisville are participating in Big East expansion or exit fee votes so the precedent is there for teams about to leave to not vote. Guess we'll see what happens once Missouri goes to the SEC which according to the NY Times is "imminent"
