I think this is a smart move by the 49'ers. They invested a first overall pick in Smith and need to see if he can be their quarterback of the future. (This excuse will expire on 12/31/2021)
translation: Because Smith didn't throw a touchdown pass in his four preseason starts, Harbaugh believes he can succeed in the first-year coach's plan to draft Andrew Luck.
Alex Smith will be a serviceable quarterback this season. I say this every year. Eventually it will come true.
Depends on wether the OL decide to pulls it together imo... they have some talent there, but they need to pull it together.
He really isn't that bad a player. The whole football club has been a complete basketcase his entire time there - he's had a new OC and a new system every single season he has been at San Francisco.
I know. And I realise that the weight of evidence is against me on this. But the guy has had pretty much everything stacked against him from day one - the team appears to have made it as difficult as possible for him to succeed, and yet he still manages to keep the starting job. He went #1 overall for a reason - there's talent there and he doesn't seem like he's a dick who is held back by his lifestyle or attitude, so I figure that eventually he'll click with an OC and have a reasonable season. He has a couple of decent weapons there now, so let's see what happens.
Hope springs eternal. People on here were propping Kellen Clemens up as recently as a year or so ago, is he even still in football?
It's amazing how much Alex Smith has actually improved when he has an actual coach helping him instead of Mike "Stylze" Nolan and that psycho who ran around sexually exposing himself in the locker room.
