I love Rex as a coach but he does have one major weekness, he has to much of an alligence to his guys. The three biggest issues with this club still exist and they have cost us at least one Super Bowl and if things went our way two. 1) I know everyone has said it but we really need a new offensive coordinator instead of a guy that takes to long to adjust and is very easy to know what is coming. Pay him off now and name Tom Moore the OC. 2) No pass rush. Three years in a row we have no pass rush and the best rush we had was year 1 under Rex. Why we never went after a few of the free agents like Babin and Roth is amazing. 3) Slow, dumb linebackers. Pace and Bryan Thomas are stealing their paychecks and I would rather see us break in one or 2 of the young linebackers to see if they can add life to that group. Rex, we love you but your alligence to Shittenheimer and Pettine is costing this team great opportunities and the windows are not always going to be there.
wait, so Our D coordinator is costing us great opportunities too? thomas is good against the run, not so much against the pass. removing him opens an even bigger hole in our linebackers on that side. not ideal. pace is stealing paychecks? sure he's not beasting, but the dude is a monster. this is like the first year he's not hurt/suspended at this time, and you want to bench him? ok. by end of year, he's going to be up there on our sacks leaderboard and tackle leaderboard
Roth has never had more than 5 sacks in a year. Thomas had 6 last year. Babin has never played in the 3-4. Not the names I'd use. Also, weakness. Allegiance. Too.
How do you blame Rex for any of those issues? Those seem to all fall under gm issues, especially 2 and 3.
1) Tom Moore is retired...he has no intention of being an OC anymore, just a consultant. 2) Passrushers don't fall off trees...there are few impact Passrushers in this league and fewer who can play standing up. 3) See 2.
In his interview with Michael Kay, Rex said he would be playing more of the younger players on both sides of the ball
There were no dynamic 3-4 passrushers available after the Steelers tagged/re-signed Woodley. Babin had already failed in a 3-4 and Matt Roth isn't even good. RR has done a great job with this defense, people will always bitch about something when it's not dominating. I think you need to taper your expectations and let it unfold. I'm willing to bet this unit will be top 5 and very dependable once again. Schottenheimer is getting blamed for what exactly? The offense has been pretty good so far considering how bad the OL has been.
oh no, this team is not perfect? you don't say. clearly it is so easy to assemble a football team and correct every weakness year in and year out. That must be why every team wins the Super Bowl every year. I mean every team except the Jets. no team is perfect. you aren't going to eliminate every weakness. the key to winning is overcoming those weaknesses by dominating in other areas. and we win under Rex, and have the ability to win it all. The Jets are just as flawed as any other team in the league. do I want them to be flawed? of course not. but the expectation that flaws should be easily remedied year in and year out isn't realistic.
The Jets D got totally out-schemed yesterday. The lack of adjustment means they were out-coached as well. The inability to seal the edge on the LOS sealed the deal.
One thing is wrong with this Jets team-----consistency. They look like no one can stop them at times ie the drive that made it 24-31 in the fourth. That was a great fucking drive and the offense looked great. Or the drive that came up short at the end of the game good drive. Then there are drives where they look like dog shit case in point every drive in the 3rd qrt. The defense does the same thing at times it looks like nobody could score on them. Then the gates unleash and they can't stop a nose bleed as BS would say. If this Jets team can just get more consistent they will be a very good team with everybody that they have now. No new OC, DC, LBs or any other new components. The people who play for and coach the New York Fucking Jets have forgotten more about football than 95% (myself included) of us on this board will ever know about football. Lets just see were this season takes us and enjoy it. The Jets are working their asses off to get better and they will get better. Lets give the boys a break.
Well, one play stands out. RunDMC was coming right at #57 and #57 just froze solid. RunDMC jucked a bit to the left then ran to the right right past #57. I've never seen a player so frozen in time and space in my life. Can't wait.
that and the play where jimmy took a bad and angle dove at his ankles just out of reach. Might have been the same play actually. But if we got a few stops that we normally make DMC only has like 100 yards they possible only put up a FG instead of a TD. Also it's pretty rare for those 50 yards field goals to be automatic. Their kicker is nice.
I'm not exactly a fan of Schotty jr., but I don't think firing your OC three weeks into the season is a recipe for success. And since Moore works as a consultant from home, I'm not sure he even actually knows the Jets players. (That, and I doubt he'd take the job) As for Pettine, I didn't get to watch the game. Were the Jets out of position on defense, or did they just not execute?
AHHHHHHHH Controlling myself from adding internet meme No Pass rush? Really? Dumb Linebacker? Really? Do you even watch the Jets? Jesus Christ! Does this really need its own thread? Can there just be a thread where everyone posts their own garbage on why we suck. And another thread where everyone posts their garbage on why we are the best team in the world?
One thing I've noticed when browsing other teams message boards is that they are all unhappy with their offensive play calling. OC must be right up there with used car salesmen as the most unappreciated jobs in the world
