I just don't see anyone in the free agent market that I want more than Pagan. Ankiel? Endy Chavez back at 34 years old? Mike Cameron back at 50? Coco Crisp might be interesting, but he's getting paid more than Pagan is, I think. Other than that, I agree with you. Except I also want Yu Darvish, cheap.
I'm gonna bet he wants a longer term contract than what Alderson is going to give out to someone on the wrong side of thirty.
Alderson shouldn't give a long term deal to CJ Wilson. Save your money for 2012 when Hamels, Danks and Greinke will be on the market.
from sportsline: Red Sox trying to acquire Capuano: WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox have been trying for close to a week to trade for Mets SP Chris Capuano. The Sox were hoping that the lefty could start for them on Sunday at the Yankees. The team had announced on Wednesday that they have not yet named a starting pitcher for that game, but that they have already ruled out Erik Bedard. The Sox had offered the Mets cash for Capuano, but they declined. A source told WEEI.com that a deal now looks unlikely. (Updated 09/22/2011)
I like Capuano...he will be a good 4th SP next year...guy has been solid. Ref CF I would like Crisp ....better defensive player than Pagan who looks lost in CF
I don't think that the Brewers have the money to re-sign Greinke, and I don't think the White Sox have the inclination to re-sign Danks (they're due for a major rebuilding process.) I'm sure the Phillies want to re-sign Hamels, but what's his incentive to ink a new deal before he hits free agency? If he goes on the open market then the Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets will all be throwing money at him.
Westbrook just walked home a run. 2-1 Cardinals in the 5th. Anyway, these pitchers don't even know how to bunt. Cardinals 2ndChris Capuano pitching:Ryan Theriot :Strike looking, Foul, Ball, Ball, Theriot grounded out to third.Jon Jay :Strike looking, Ball, Strike looking, Ball, Ball, Jay walked.Jake Westbrook :Bunt foul, Ball, Strike (missed bunt), Westbrook struck out on missed bunt. Chris Capuano :Strike looking, Foul, Capuano struck out looking. Jake Westbrook :Foul, Strike swinging, Foul, Westbrook struck out swinging. Mets 5thJake Westbrook pitching:Nick Evans :Strike looking, Evans grounded out to pitcher.Josh Thole :Strike looking, Ball, Strike looking, Foul, Foul, Thole singled to center.Mike Baxter :Strike looking, Baxter singled to right, Thole to second. Chris Capuano :Strike (missed bunt), Strike (missed bunt), Ball, Foul, Capuano struck out on missed bunt.
Cardinals have no right taking the wild card. As much as we want it to happen, it won't. And with those 3 FA pitchers in 2012. No way the Mets sign Hamels, Danks ain't that great for the money he'll want, and Brewers will have the money to re-sign Grieke cuz they won't have Fielder's salary anymore.
Dickey continues his strong pitching, going 6 1/3 hitless. Of course, the Mets will apparently never have a no-hitter. It's too bad that 1-8 homestand killed any chance of them finishing over .500, but at least Collins seems to have them caring a little more now.
I have to admit, I'd be more appreciative of Reyes (possibly) winning the batting title if I didn't think tomorrow is going to be his last game as a Met.
