I actually agree with him. Cromartie has made more impact plays over the years than Asamougha, no doubt. Of course the impact plays are not all positive. He is much more spectacular, but his mistakes are also more pronounced IMO. “My style of play and his style of play are totally different,” Cromartie said. “I feel I’m more of a playmaker than he is.” Cromartie did make some big plays for the Jets on Sunday against the Jaguars. He picked off two passes and returned one to the one-yard line to set up a Jets touchdown. He can also make plays as a kickoff returner and the Jets have been giving him on snaps on offense, although that has only resulted in one rush for one yard and some extra tape for opposing defensive coordinators to watch. There’s a reason why Cromartie gets to make so many plays, of course. Teams don’t much like throwing to the guy covered by Darrelle Revis, so Cromartie gets tested more often as a result. Asomugha has also been a corner left alone by opposing quarterbacks over the years, something that doesn’t give him nearly as many chances to make plays as Cromartie has with the Jets or when he was a member of the Chargers. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/21/cromartie-im-better-playmaker-than-nnamdi/
He's right by default. Nnamdi doesn't get thrown at so it's tough for him to be a playmaker. Same thing applies for Revis too.
He gets a ton more opportunites to make plays than Nnamdi, and he very well may be a better playmaker, but Nnamdi is still undoubtedly a better player.
If Nnamdi got thrown at more, would he make more big plays? Who knows. I guess someone asked him about how he compares himself to Nnamdi because that's a weird comment at this point.
Cro's made a couple jabs at Nnamdi since FA ended. I guess he felt slighted that the Jets were going all-in for Nnamdi and had to settle for Cro following that whole fiasco.
Cromarties a better playmaker than Revis imo to. Put the ball in Cromarties hands and he can do as much damage as anyone in the NFL.
Nothing wrong with what he said. Cromartie does seem to be the better playmaker but like it has been said Nnamdi is without a doubt a better player. I'd rather have an elite shutdown corner like Nnamdi and Revis than a guy like Cromartie who is suspect but can still make big plays happen. Cromartie is big for us, without his kick return last year vs Indy who knows if our offense even gets into field goal range. Maybe we do, maybe we don't. Cro really helped us out there. Just hope he doesn't get complacent after one great week of playing against Luke McCown and nobody WR's.
I'm glad that Cromartie is motivated by the direct comparisons between him and Asomugha during free agency. He's stepping up some parts of his game because he's pissed off.
