As far as im concerned were in the same boat as the Eagles right now. On paper we look like the best team around, that said our offensive lines are both so absolutely fucking horrendous that our QB and HB are facing massive amounts of risk every game. After week 1 they had to test Sanchez for a god damn concussion, and today it was pretty obvious that he looked shaken up after a couple of those hits (one of them they talked about how lucky he was that he wasnt hurt on that hit). And we also saw Greene get shaken up as well due to poor oline play (and qb mishap) Eitherway it doesnt matter how good we play right now, if we cant keep Sanchez/Greene healthy. And the fact is the Oline looks like complete dogshit which is why our ground game has been nothing short of horrendous and our QB has been pounded on the ground like hell. Hate to break it to ya but were not winning a superbowl if we have a 40 + year old QB as our only option, and a 30 + year old HB as our only (legit) hb. So unless that Oline improves drastically, we should be discussing whether Brunell or O'Donnel is a better option this winter.
Lets be real, the pats look like the best team right now. Brady is playing lights out and the offense looks unstoppable (not saying we can't beat them tho). Still a long season ahead of us and our offense needs to click together.
Brady has looked really good, but let's not overreact. Miami's defense sucks. New England looked good today, not great, San Diego handed the game to the Pats , just like Dallas did us a favor last week. Wait Till Brady has to face a solid defense , like the Jets, that will be the real test.
I don't want to hear shit about the Chargers giving the game away, They made the mistakes and as always Brady made them pay. Right now, NE is the top of the class of the AFC to think otherwise would be sheer foolishness. There defense can be had, but you are going to lose 90% of the time if you get in to a shootout with Brady. If he is not being hit early and often the opposing defense is in for a long day...
our OL looks like shit. were missing damien woody already. and the uncertainty around mangold isnt reassuring. his stunt double got his ass kicked. so too early for week 2 declarations? ill say so. if were a championship team weve won two games were supposed to. now if we can go 3-1 in weeks 4-7 (@BAL, @NE, MIA, SD) then i might consider it.
Are you shitting me? The Pats have a great claim to that title after two weeks. Let's wait until we beat them in a few weeks before we start proclaiming them inferior.
You need to hear that shit. The NFL is about turnovers and San Diego turned over the ball. Rex's defense, like in the playoffs, won't let Brady get in a Shootout. It's funny, it's week 2 and so many are crowning NE champs....fucking crazy.
NE, unfortunately (which is why Rex is correct in saying someone else needs to step up besides us for us to win the division) always looks good during the regular season. No one gets enough pressure on Brady. They are a great "regular" season team. Now when we played them during the playoffs Brady looked downright scared at times. This is what needs to happen every week, but of course in the regular season - doesn't happen. The competition isn't as good. Besides there's some pretty bad teams in the AFC. Overall top to bottom, NFC is stronger than the AFC this year IMO.
Retarded post by OP. Pats are #1 in AFC Jets a distant 2nd with Hou, Balt, & Pit bringing up behind. If the Jets can take care care of the teams they are supposed to - Oak, MIA, SD, and pull out a win between Bal and/or NE, then we are on our way. We obviously want a win against NE cause that is the only way the Jets will win the division. Otherwise there will be another road trip coming up this post-season
I can't say who the best team in the AFC is right now. Week 2...one week some look like world beaters and the next like average shmoe's. Other than the playbook itself, the o-line is the 2nd thing that takes time to gel and is most affected by the lock out and no ota's etc... The Jets will be fine as long as Mangold doesn't miss significant time. Hunter definitely needs some coaching...he looked real bad today. Having said that I will make this statement...I think the AFC East is hands down the best division in the AFC. Even the Dolphins look, at least, competitive. The Bills...god knows what they've put in their Wheaties. I like Fitzpatrick...just what they need to re-build. The Jets will be fine...and...to be honest, this is the first time, other than the Bills game last year, that they hammered a team they were SUPPOSED to hammer. Usually they play down to their competition.
Can you explain to me how the Jets are a distant second? Did you miss the playoff game last year or something? Pats need to prove they are better than us...not visa versa. We beat them last year with all the chips down and until proven otherwise, the Jets are the better team.
By what measure are the Pats #1 in the AFC? The Steelers are AFC champions, the Jets beat them in their own building in the playoffs, and their D let up 400 yards to Chad Henne without Daniel Thomas playing. This is a topic better revisited in Week 9.
the question is who the best team is right now, not who won in a playoff game last year. the Steelers beat us last year in the playoffs, so by your logic the point of the Jets being better than the Pats is moot, because the Jets aren't better than the Steelers so they must be the best team in the AFC. when you look at who looks better this year, the Patriots look unstoppable. like last year. sad but true. whether we are able to beat them in the playoffs remains to be seen, so it is irrelevant to the discussion of who is probably the better team right now. holy fucking shit.
Jets are better at winning any one game. Pats are better at consistently winning games. We can go out there and beat any team on any day no matter how favored they are (see Jets in playoffs under Rex Ryan) Pats on the other hand will continue to have 14-2 and 13-3 seasons leaving us to fight for a playoff spot on the road. Fact is even if we beat them twice this year, theyll still likely end up with 12-14 wins which will make us taking the division a bitch. Hell you have to remember we actually have a losing record against the dolphags in the RR era. We might be the better team when it counts, but theyre far more consistent.
We are good, potentially very good, but our offense needs to build some consistency, and Wayne Hunter has to stop betting on our opponents.
Steelers are the AFC Champs until proven otherwise. I have no problem giving them that and it is our job to prove otherwise. The pats look exactly like they did last year....they have a great offense and will beat up on bad defenses and then the playoffs will come and they will face a real defense and be exposed like they have the last two years.
Yeah the Pats defense still giving up a lot of points...I mean how many yards did Henne throw for??? What happens when they a) play a better defense and play a team that can b) match them in offensive production? We'll see how good they are then. Meanwhile, our o-line needs to get their act together and Sanchez needs to not have these lapses where he goes into "bad Sanchez" mode and we'll be good.
I'm pleased with the Pats winning 2 games, but there's so many things for them to improve on(interior O-line blocking, CBs getting torched, LBs covering underneath routes, getting off the field on 3rd down). Brady has been lights out, but what happens when they run into a team that doesn't play zone such as the Jets? That's the litmus test for me. They can put up video game numbers all year, but it comes down to getting tough yards against tough defenses. That being said, they are in a group of 3 or 4 teams that look the best along with the Jets. Way too early to say who's the best. I could care less because it's all about who's best in January.
