very much agree with the thinking of a statement game here. "america's team" crap and all. would be nice to have a convincing W, something like 31-10, and not giving anything out to the haters/darksiders to bitch about. jets do have a history of playing down to their inferior opps so get ready for 35 carries and 15 passes.... jil
It looks like the Cowboys may be without both starting corners and their starting RT. With an already young OL I would imagine Rex is licking his chops at the types of blitzes he's going to be able to use against this inexperienced OL.
Aikman on Dallas Radio Station: -Can’t imagine being a young OL on the road on Sunday night facing Rex Ryan’s defense. Expect to see many different looks -Cowboys defense against the run is a concern -Some holes on defense -banged up at the corner position probably does not allow Rob Ryan to do what he wants on defense. Will have to play safe and help out the corners -Likes Rob & Rex. Thinks they are good for football
Which of course everyone should keep in mind since Schotty will not have Mark throwing 40 times on sunday despite the corner injuries...
I expect our D to look like the Houston opener from 2 years ago against that Cowboy OL. Things are looking good for us heading into this one w/ the injuries in the secondary and their inexperienced OL. No bad turnovers and we should be able to win.
** Cowboys RT Tyron Smith went down with a hyperextended knee in Wednesday's practice. He'll undergo an MRI, but it sounds like he'll be out 2-4 weeks. Smith was slated to start for Dallas and will be replaced by Jermey Parnell, an undrafted free-agent who has never appeared in an NFL game. It's a definite concern for QB Tony Romo, especially against Rex Ryan's Jets this Sunday night.
I don't believe that this weeks game is a MUST win by any stretch of the imagination, but, if we don't start the season 2-1 or better, no matter what games they win or lose, we are going to struggle to get 9 wins this year. We will still have to play the Pats twice, Ravens, Chargers, and Eagles, so after week 3 the schedule gets extremely tough for the next 6 weeks.
Week 1 is never a must win game(remember the overreaction w/ losing to Bal last year?) but it would be nice to get off to a quick start and we need to start winning consistently at home.
Couldn't agree more, NEED to win your home games. Let's just hope that Mark adjusts better to the wind and cold of November/December and we should have a huge homefield advantage when the warm weather teams come to town.
I'm holding out hope both guys are out... but until they are officially out, im not getting my hopes up... Here is too hoping they are out, and our lives just got a little easier...
It's not a must win per say, but it's a game we SHOULD win. We must win the games we SHOULD win. No more losses to inferior teams.
On the money. This is going to be the key to whether the Jets can improve their chances of getting an SB win. No more losses in the regular season to teams that should be beaten. Those come back to bite the team in terms of playoff seedings. If the Jets fall back to losing to the weak sisters of the league, they undermine their SB chances. The road becomes that much longer.
I like this statement the best! Because if I have to hear anymore this season how the Jets are losing games they should win I'll strangle these radio idiots!
i love how everyone always thinks we should air it out when this team is built for milking the clock on the ground and play action passes, which one usually results in a huge play. the same people saying this would be the first ones bitching when sanchez goes 0/3 in a series claiming "you have the OL and a powerback, RUN IT!" obviously with their secondary banged up we do need to have some agressive playcalling but wed be wasting this OL and RB stable if we aired it out. the only thing i would say to counter my own statement would be I expect Rob Ryan to run blitz the hell out of us. either way Sanchez has the targets so whether it be 25 or 35 attempts he needs to make plays.
i never liked that term used when it downplays a game. every game is a must win. tell the players its ok to lose, see how that goes over with them.
No one is saying they should go into the game thinking it is ok to lsoe but if they lose the season isn't over so it's not a must win.
If they don't win this game it won't bode well for beating good teams that are healthy...yes they must win this game.
