Not a fan of the practice squad concept. It seems like every year, our preseason finds (like a Bellfore) land on this unprotected roster where they are easily plucked by the likes of the Patriots or Giants. I really would like to see guys that actually flash and produce in the games make the secure roster, whether they're drafted or not. Who are the free agent-Jets you're hoping NOT to see exposed in the "display window" of the Jets practice squad?
Actually, you hit the nail on the head with Bellore. I'm hoping he makes our ST unit and stays off the Practice squad...
The question would usually be: who do you want to make the PS. That said I'm hoping Bellore & Turner make the 53 man roster while McIntyre should make the PS along with Kroul. Also Landor and Posey should be on the PS, possibly with Landolt who has been good in the pre-season. To sum it up... PS: Gilbert, McIntyre, Posey, Landor, Payne, Kroul, Landolt, Baker
There's almost no doubt that Bellfore is making the 53. Our starers rock but our depth sucks. There's space for him.
I want to see mcintyre, Landor, and Baker on our PS other than that, I'm expecting lots of our PS to be built from last day cuts of other teams. Gilbert may not be eligible for the PS anymore, but if he is, thats really his only spot unless we carry 9 DL, he doesnt fit. I don't think he deserves to beat out any of our other guys at this point. As for Bellore, I don't think he goes to the PS. Based off his body of work in the preseason, he will be on somebody's 53, hopefully ours.
I feel the same way about the practice squad, as a fan. But I'll bet player's on the practice squad feel pretty damn good about the "display window" aspect. I agree with the bolded statement, for what it's worth. I think the PS move last year with that certain white-guy-who-shall-not-be-named was a mistake, but it is what it is. It's nice to have a team with too much talent.
I agree, but I think Payne may make it over Turner for his ST work. The 5th receiver just isn't important enough to merit a spot entirely on his own. I'm excited to see who steps up on Thursday and earns a spot on the PS, but barring a complete meltdown by a player on O or D, I think the bottom of the 53 man will be determined by ST value.
Payne suffered a dislocated wrist yesterday....that could hurt his chances, considering he'll probably be held out of the Philly game.
Nope. The problem is that he barely qualified last season. He had, I think, 4 games on our PS. 3 counts as a qualified year. He wasn't on our active roster for long at all. Time spent on the 53 doesn't matter, only time spent active. Actually, now that I look at it, he didn't even spend 4 games on our PS. He didn't reach the 3 required, so I think he's eligible regardless.
It's remarkable how the Pats have 300 draft picks every year, yet they still must raid our practice squad for useful players. I guess it's the next best thing to videotaping our practices.
I know he couldn't have gone to the practice squad. I had it in my head that we cut Woodhead to sign Patrick Turner off the practice squad and then sent him back a couple weeks later, but I'm wrong- we cut Woodhead to bring back Clowney.
Me too but I don't really give a shit with Wilkerson, DeVito, Pitoitua & Dixon the team. Also I think Washington (#96) has been solid... if Gilbert get's snapped off our PS than I'd like to have Washington on it.
