Ricky Williams breaks arm in Argonauts' win July 22, 2006 REGINA, Saskatchewan (AP) -- Running back Ricky Williams broke his left arm in the second quarter of the Toronto Argonauts' 26-23 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday night and is out indefinitely. Argonauts coach Mike "Pinball" Clemons confirmed the injury but did not specify which bone was broken. "He has a broken arm, so he's going to be out for a little while," Clemons said. Williams, who was not available for interviews, left the game midway through the second quarter after a 3-yard gain when he was tackled by several Saskatchewan players, including linebacker Mike McCullough. X-rays taken at a Regina hospital revealed a broken bone. "He was actually holding himself off the ground," Clemons said of Williams. "He was running with the ball and he was trying to hold himself up, I think. It was a pile of people and we saw him coming down. "We knew he was hurt when he came off the field. It looked like it was his shoulder (from) the way he was leaning, but it turned out be his arm. "You're talking about some fortitude. It's a clean break. He just came off quiet, didn't say a thing. Like, I'd have been screaming." Williams finished with 17 yards on four carries, including one run of 16 yards. He entered Saturday's game sixth in the league in rushing with 214 yards on 53 carries with one touchdown in four games. Williams is playing in the CFL after he was suspended by the NFL for one year after a fourth positive drug test. He is still under contract with the NFL's Miami Dolphins. Any games Williams misses will be the first he sits out due to injury since a broken left ankle forced him to miss the last six games of the 2000 NFL season, when he was with the New Orleans Saints.
He hasn't been putting up impressive numbers anyways....chances are that their running game will be more successful while he is out because teams will not be focusing on just 1 player any more.
I wonder if this guy is going to realize one day - I mean REALLY realize - that he threw his career away over pot-smoking. It's really unbelievable to me.
What folks do on their own time is their business, but not when you're under contract and it's currently illegal. Bottom line is: NO DISCIPLINE. You've got to be kidding me. If he couldn't keep away when it mattered, he's got a serious problem (yes, there are such things as people having serious problems with pot - I know a handful). If not that, then he has a problem with authority, which means he doesn't belong in football, period.
way to go saban way to go clap clap way to go saban way to go clap clap saban=retarted u dont let ur backup rb go to play for the argonauts for a year luckily its a clean break of his arm but what if it was his leg and he could never run the same way again. i mean that might not be much now since he is a pothead but u get my jist
Actually, I think having Ricky play football while serving his suspension was a good idea. Unfortunately, bad breaks come to everyone in time.
Well I be Saban is pretty happy right now...Ricky will recover, and will likely miss the res of the season because there's a good chance that Toronto won't make the playoffs....so, Ricky could be done football til next years NFL trainign camp....which is sort of what they wanted anyways.....there;s 12 or 13 weeks left in the CFL season and with a broken arm he's gotta be out at least 10 to 12
Why cant they just put one of those carbon fiber casts on like VA tech did with Humes? I guess there is more risk then reward there and it has to be a break in the right place.
You may be onto something, Cman. That marijuana can be used for medicinal practices is already accepted practice in some US communities. Why not the NFL, where painkillers of more potent stripe are used routinely? Ricky is nursing a broken arm, he's in pain, and herbal remedies may prove useful. He could go back to the NFL under such an understanding, blaze up whenever he wants, and still play without fear of drug-test banishment.
