http://www.usatoday.com/sports/foot...0/1?AID=4992781&PID=4166869&SID=1uzrorbval2yq After reading how much Callahan praises this guy and his ability, I am starting to feel more confident that there will be little to no drop-off in OLine performance this year. As long as Dixon, Kroul, & Turnstyle can step up from a depth perspective until Turner gets back, I think we will be fine. There was minimal issues with Slauson stepping in for Faneca and Slaw got better as the year wore on. I am thinking the same for WH.
I knew Wayne Hunter was pretty good, but that's very encouraging to hear. I hope he recovers quickly.
Nice read. While I don't think he's as elite in the talent category as Callahan says he is, it is good to know that he believes in Hunter. I can definitely see him as a late bloomer being coached by arguably the best OL coach currently in the NFL.
Nice article. Interesting and encouraging. I really hope Hunter's self-assessed comparisons between him and Woody are more based upon his polite humility as opposed to a truly objective appraisal on his part.
by the end of last season i loved wayne hunter.... i admit i was nervous as hell when woody went down... but when hunter stepped in it was hard to notice any difference... as for the o-line as a unit.... we will still be an elite group... arguably the best in the league... barring everyone stays healthy
Perfect example of how our FO & CS know what they are doing. Historically JET fans have become accustomed to neither knowing what the hell was going on, - i.e. being entirely reactive as opposed to proactive. Everyone (myself included) wet their pants a little bit when Woody went down. Is Vlad ready??? What about Hunter???? No problems at all - Hunter the vet backup ready to play. And now ready to start & be more than capable in playing. Same thing w/Faneca leaving last year - FO + CS spent a 2nd rounder on Vlad, but also knew that Slauson was there --- not much of a dropoff and MUCH CHEAPER. From what we've seen, Tanny & Ryan+staff are doing an EXCELLENT job of finding the right players & developing the roster from within. Hopefully undrafted FAs like R. Pitoitua, M. Dixon, J. Gilbert, J. Mauga, J. Cumberland, J. Westermann, MTV & E. Cook can be developed into the Mike DeVitos of the 2011 season & help put us over the top.
That is one heap of praise from Callahan for Hunter. I recall Rex stating the Jets were ok last season when Woody went down because they had Hunter as a back-ip. Hunter proved it in the playoffs. Hope Callahan is not far off with ironing the kinks out with DuCasse.
I don't think we are going to notice any significant drop-off at RT this year. And that is saying something because Woody was excellent for us.
I could be imagining things, but my recollection is that we were noticeably less successful running right with Hunter starting than Woody last year. I hope that is resolved.
Another great find that the JBT secured. Its the big moves that get you noticed. Its the little ones that make you great. Great job Mike
Well written and researched article. Nate Davis, huh? How come Cimini can't write articles like that? Oh wait! I already know the answer! Cimini sucks. Very encouraging about Hunter. Callahan is helping the Jets in a key way, that being easing the transition as older players leave. Slauson had some bumps in the road, but I think there will be much less for Hunter. With the hope that Slauson will show improvement over early last season, this OL (at least the starters) will likely be better than last year's. Of course the bench remains a concern.
It's too late. There are no difference makers on the O-Line available for the Jets. Jets entered this season without depth on the O-Line and now they're stuck paying the price. Next shot at quality a O-Lineman will be in the offseason.
