on field play??? none of the guys you mentioned have seen the field other than the 2nd half of preseason games. So to sit here and claim our team has really good depth with the roster AS IS has to be blind faith. statements like: "What I DO trust is that if it proves to be a position of need, the FO will make the moves necessary to improve that depth going into the season." just further that point. Last year our O-line depth was scary with Wayne Hunter being the only backup I felt somewhat comfortable with, now he's starting and there was no other acquisitions so I feel even less comfortable. as for the Pittsburgh Steelers I mentioned that you dismissed, they have drafted 9 OL in the first four rounds since '01. The Jets have drafted only 4 and thats with having 2 in one year (ferguson, mangold). Perhaps the Jets still have a better starting OL, I dont know, but I remember their OL having their way with the Jets last January en route to the Super Bowl. (and that's with an actual injury DURING the game : depth came through)
Really looking forward to preseason kicking off and getting my first decent look at a lot of these guys.
I've always said I was slightly dyslexic :breakdance:.... I don't know why I read it that way but I did. My bad. We actually agree then, in either a different thread or this one. Your response to me is what I said to another poster earlier today. I used that last sentence because Nagle continues to harp on the fact that he's unsure about the depth. We don't know how they are going to play until they play, but for them to play there must be an injury. But speculation does disprove that sentence. He won't let it go though. How many teams know exactly how their depth is going to play out? One - the Packers, because they used about 40 players last season to win a SB. And we only knew how they were going to play until they stepped up and finished the job. So yeah...
we didn't lose any LBs other then Jason Taylor. our LB depth is exactly the same as last year otherwise not sure why people didn't make a fuss over it last year but are now
We lost Lance Laury too. Nick Bellore had a great chance to fill that spot though. He was a very good linebacker at Central Michigan. This team just has unknowns backing up ILB and OLB. Jamaal Westerman and Garrett McIntyre both have great opportunities this year. They have to step up. Josh Mauga and Nick Bellore are young, developmental ILBs that can contribute on specials.
I said that people claim we have solid depth at most positions because of on field play. I was addressing your claim that we, as a team, have poor depth. "The guys I mentioned" sure as hell aren't the whole team. Did you want me to go through the entire roster position by position? Rob Turner is a more than capable backup, and Ducasse is being groomed to take over at RT. That leaves us no different than the '10 Patriots that you were slobbering over a few posts ago. One proven backup, one unproven who is being groomed. Why do you feel we're in such a drastically worse position? There's a reason why the Steelers have drafted 9 OL in the first four rounds since '01: they draft terrible linemen. Out of those 9 picks, TWO are good players, and one of those came last year. The fact that they fail to draft serviceable linemen is hardly an indicator of their depth. "Perhaps" the Jets have the better starting OL? The Steelers' line was their WORST unit last season. I'm not sure why anyone would be remotely hesitant to proclaim the Jets' OL better. Anecdotal evidence certainly doesn't prove anything. The Steelers are shaky from top to bottom along the depth chart on the OL. The fact that they had to rotate subpar players around Kemoeatu and Pouncey last season doesn't change that. Perhaps your problem is that, while the Steelers' mediocre OL subs are nearly equal to their mediocre starting unit, our average subs are a step back from our excellent starters.
And the Jets have the best OL in football where as Pitt's is ranked at the bottom. Maybe that's why don't you think? http://football.about.com/od/fantasyfootball/a/Offensive_Line.htm
Those rankings also happen to have the Minnesota Vikings at #10 and I'm pretty sure consensus is they suck
i like kearly where he is. i think he will contribute on s teams not as much of a receiver. i like smith over pool. i hate pool and i love how hard smith hits. i think next year the jets will draft a good quality wr first round next year and depending on who the jets keep, mason i think will be out and plaxico not sure, but kearly will be third if the get rid of him and 4th if they dont. just my opinion
Rex seems to be putting together one helluva a defense. Alot of interesting pieces that he can use in various combinations.
The Vikings' O-Line doesn't suck. They're middle of the road in pass blocking but excellent run blockers.
i do worry about having hunter protecting sanchez' blind side. just based on the fact he hasn't been in that role before as a starter. but i'm hopeful, of course.
