Probably because Chad isn't the type of player TO is that would call attention to himself and call his comeback "heroic".
As far as Chad goes, the difference this year is in the coaching. Last year I reported right here about what I saw concerning Pennington at TC. After watching him carefully on every throw during a couple of Two-a-Days, and despite Herm's unrealistically optimistic comments, I expressed dire concern over Chad's ability. Then, when Herm announced in late August that Chad was now "89% ready to go," I really couldn't believe what I was reading! I remember saying here that either Chad had made some sort of miraculous progress since I had last seen him (7-10 days prior), or something was wrong with Herm's evaluation. It turned out to be the latter. I intend to be watching Chad again very closely this year and I hope his arm's in better shape than it was a year ago. But the biggest difference this year is going to be that we've got a coach who will be watching Chad very closely too, and this time there won't be any bullshit about it. Chad will either be ready to go or he won't, in which case Mangini and Schotty will be wise enough to go to Plan B instead of foolishly trying to force the issue and play the heir-apparent veteran no matter what. And Heimerdinger was nothing more than a rent-a-puppet for Edwards, so even he wouldn't (or couldn't) weigh in on the matter, so Chad went to KC as the starter and made the scalping of General Custer's patrol at Little Big Horn look like a Sunday School picnic by comparison. I feel more comfotable this year that the right decision will be made because of the difference in the coaching.
they should start bolly until the o-line jells, then start clemmins. they're not going to the playoffs or super bowl this year. so, start to clear future cap space and develop the younger players while the honeymoon gives them a free pass.:jets:
The reality here is, we may have seen the last of Chad behind center in the regular season. I would love a comeback story because I do like Chad, but rah rah only gets you so far.
Yes, rah rah doesn't pay the rent. Fact remains that Pennington's pinky toe doesn't touch turf if he isn't physically healed. You won't see that happening again; and if it takes a good chunk of the season until that does happen, the job may no longer be his to win. Business is business. It's all conjecture, and the Jets are keeping a tight lid on his progress to a fashion. That's fine by me.
The bottom line is that Pennington has had two seperator torn rotator cuff injuries. Last year he couldn't even throw an out pattern much less throw a deep ball. He had a below average arm before he got hurt the first time. For any Jets fan to be optimistic about his return at this point is just not being realistic. He would have to show the coaching staff that he has the arm power to make all the throws. Then he would have to prove that if he's on the field that he won't get hurt again. Maybe I'm wrong but I believe the only reason he is here for another year was to soften the salary cap hit and that he will be cut next offseason.
i dont think the jets offense will have a lot of 40 , 50 yard passes. i think it will be short to medium range witch is fine with me.
You know.... Everyone who keeps mentioning Patrick Ramsey as the starter. Have you guys ever seen him play? HE SUCKS... He got beaten out by a 37 year old, beaten down Mark Brunell for the starting QB job. He has: Poor mobility, A poor arm and makes POOR DECISIONS with the pill... Then he complains about playing time. Maybe he pulls a 180, but I doubt it. Chad is coming off two very serious shoulder operations, but hell modern medicine is something else nowadays.. Chad has one of the highest career passer ratings in the history of the NFL, so lets just have a little faith in the man we once had so much faith in. The guy has great intangibles and wants this comeback more than anything, so lets' just have faith before we write him off for a guy who has been a sour back-up his entire (brief) career after being highly touted out of college.. How many teams has Pat Ramsey lead into the playoffs? And then all this Clemens talk, Hell I think the kid will be good some day, but these arent PAC-10 defenses he is throwing against.. Anyone who has watched PAC-10 football those guys play Matador type defense in that conference. And I heard one guy earlier comparing starting Clemens this year to when Jim Mora started P.Manning when he came out of school? Come on man... Peyton Manning was a sure-fire NFL star, Clemens wasn't even picked in the first round, let's be serious here. Shoulder surgery is rough business, but they (Chad and Drew Brees) had the very best doctor do the surgery, so lets' have a little faith in modern medicine, you can be assured that this is it for Chad. You can also be assured (atleast I think so) that Chad at 75% will run a new offense better than any of these other guys Ramsey (a good backup), Clemens (talented, but needs to learn) and Bollinger (mediocre best backup) will..
Just go with the standard Chad Failureton answer from the last five seasons. “My intention is to be ready for training camp and win a championship with the New York Jets…” How can you not be fired up about this???? (Sarcasm)
Although I have been a strong supporter of Chad in the past, I cannot get psyched about him again until he proves me wrong. You mention modern medicine, well I ain't buying it. In the latest issue of Jets Confidential they have an interview with Jim Miller another QB who went through 2 shoulder operations, he says the chances of Chad being successful again is "slim and none". Don Majikowski, another QB who had a brilliant year and then had shoulder surgery and was never the same, has been quoted saying a very similar thing. Both thought he should take at least a full year off before even attempting a comeback. Couple that with multiple orthopedic surgeons who have stated the shoulder will never be the same, and I just can't be optomistic anymore. All of these folks, with much more knowledge than me have stated that one more hit and he is done. What scares me is if he gets all of the reps with the first team in the preseason and starts only to be injured a game or two in; that just sets the team back again. I'm hoping Chad proves me wrong, but I think that ship has sailed and the only reason he is still on the team is the money....
