Wow - I cant believe how much these have come down in a year thanks to the new CBA. #1 Cam Newton - $22 million over four years, all of which is guaranteed. #1 sam Bradford - six-year, $78 million deal, with $50 million guaranteed. #1 Matthew Stafford - six-year $72 million deal, with $41.7 million guaranteed. Cam's contract is two years shorter which makes a big difference but even so that is a serious drop off.
I like it. No way a rookie should come out and make more then more Legit starter at any position those $$ must be earned. And it give them 2 years less to test the market and/or for team to cut loses
I agree 100% - those rookie contracts before were way out of control, many for players with relatively little experience. Its got to be better to reward rookies less and experienced players more. Just look at all the money we burned on Gholston!!! :metal:
Exactly while he was making more the Pouha who has produce I cant count how many folds more. It gives both sides an edge either way depends on how the rookie pans out now.
I am a huge fan of the wage scale. I don't doubt for one second, had the scale not be in place Cam Newton would have signed a deal with more guaranteed money than anyone in history (until Peyton signed his, and broke Cam's). Thats just plain wrong to give to a rookie who hasn't even stepped on a practice field yet... While these rookie deals basically have to be guaranteed now, 22 million guaranteed for Newton is way better than the likely 60-65 million guaranteed that he would have gotten.
this will help the constant bottom dwellers who will stay out of cap hell because of paying 3-4 top 5 picks at the same time. except the bengals and raiders.they are screwed until the owners die
