Great job reworking this salary cap having a known commodity in Cromartie is great, I was scared of having to replace the #2 WR and #2 CB in the same offseason. Can't wait (bart scott!) until all pay cuts go through and Harris gets locked in with a long-term deal.
Very happy with this deal. This is what we all expected Cro to get. I'm happy the whole Aso situation didn't make him sour on the Jets. REAL amped about this season and can't wait. Overall, this off season has been just what I wanted minus us not getting Braylon back and getting Plax, but I'll accept and hopefully Plax returns to form and the boys come home with the championship trophy.
I think my overall reaction is a mix of relief and satisfaction. Can't comment on the contract until I see guaranteed numbers, but anything less than $18m guaranteed makes it a below-market deal in my book (unless there are injury-only guarantees, which I would disregard).
Nice work. $8 Million per year is really good deal considering Cro was the last CB on the market and the Jets left him dangling while pursuing Aso. The $4M saved from Aso covers Plaxico's contract and still have one million left over. I'd like to see an upgrade in safety and really hoping Ellis can come back.
But they are offering a season of completely free Sunday Ticket if you sign up now. Should have just changed the name on the account, got the discount they are offering and got free Sunday Ticket.
Phew...I am officially happy with our run in free agency now. I'd love us to bring Ellis back to help with the pass-rush but even if we don't...we knew that we wouldn't be able to resign holmes, braylon and cromartie so getting burress as a replacement and keeping one of the best CB tandems in the league (for a few good years as well) is huge for us. Two things to keep in perspective: 1. The amount of massive plays Holmes made for us last season, he's truly a clutch receiver and I think re-signing him was always far more important than going after Aso. 2. Don't worry about Burress not playing the level of Braylon. Fact is Cotchery has always been at the very least a very good number 2 receiver in my books, Sanchez will have plenty of weapons on offence again this year
Color me pleasantly surprised one of those other teams (Oak, SF) didn't go above 4-32 just to be jackasses. So after all the sound and fury of FA we wind up with essentially the same team (other than 'trading' Edwards for Plax) And that's just fine to me.
I would be shocked to find out Oakland didn't offer more than 8 mil a year. In the end I think he just chose to play where he would be most comfortable and I doubt that was the abyss known as Oakland.
