Key word. He's not signed. That's the problem. IMO, he should. Saints said something they should live up to it. Plus you know he's going to donate huge chunks of his paycheck right back to N.O. becuase that's the way he is.
IMO the Saints told Bush before the draft that if they were #1 they would give him $$$, Bush went to Texas and said I want $$$, Texas drafts Mario. Saints now offer $$ because Bush is #2. Bush not happy. I for one am glad we didn't draft Bush, he is overated and will not be that hall of fame player that everyone is speculating. And now that he is threatening to hold out. . . If he does hold out and gets redrafted next year, don't expect him to go in the top 5.
That would be a PR nightmare for him. There the people have no homes, and basically barely making ends meat, and here this guy is sitting out because of couple million here or there. Try selling that to the good people of N.O. Stupid move if he does to do! Sign your contract get there on time, and even look good by donating a few million to some organization. That's what I would do.
All I have to say is that Tangini made the right decision in not getting him. Not that he wont be good, but if we gave up all those picks for someone who theoretically would hold out for us, it would be disasterous. Enjoy a sweet 0-line for the next decade guys.
He was drafted by a team where the city is still in shambles, with a stadium probably still in shambles...I don't know if you remember draft day but they showed the fans at the Saints practice facility (they were in a tent) he probably had it much better at USC and was treated like a king...a major culture shock to say the least. He will sign but I bet it won't be for more than a few years.
Saints practice facility Millsaps College, Jackson Miss 100 acre campus, 1000 students, we have high schools larger than that in Jersey.... http://www.millsaps.edu/get_to_know/tour_hac.shtml http://www.millsaps.edu/athletic/pac/ Reggie, you're not in Cali anymore....the pomp and circumstance from the draft has faded away...welcome to a new reality!
I think even if we did draft him, he'd be signed. Tanny has gotten everybody signed before training camp since 1997, with one exception. James Farrior.
Houston must have seen the writing on the wall. Hes going to be a major PITA they were not able to come to terms with Bush predraft so they went with plan B
The following scenario is as likely to happen as the Jets inviting me to training camp to be the starting DT - and I haven't played football since 4h grade and i'm 170 pounds.... I'm surprised nobody has said it so far: If Bush is wiling to sit out the entire year, and the Saint would get nothing - maybe they'd be interested in trading the rights to him in early september. It would make sense from both sides. The Saints benefit because they'd get the Jets picks, who are most likely going to pick in the top 10. The Jets would benefit because even if they gave a first, second and fourth - we'd still have a second round pick (Redskins) and we'd have the core of a VERY solid offense (Clemens, Bush, O-Line). It's fun to play this game - but rest assured I am well aware this is NEVER going to happen.
Excellent point - all the talk by the Texans GM that $$ had nothing to do with their decision to select Mario over Bush, and that how this was a purely football decision was complete and utter BS!! This guy is going to demand the earth, moon and stars.
OK so tell me whats so appealing about playing for the Saints? If he was a Jet he'd be signed and in camp and you would have his jersey and be lovin it,and you know it!
