I'm guessing the thinking behind this is that if we can't get Cromartie then we might as well play Wilson opposite Revis and have Strickland+Buchanon as our nickel and dime CBs... I don't understand why our FO is showing no interest whatsoever in Rogers but this might not be the worst scenario in the world. Assuming of course we try to upgrade the pass rush with either Lawson or Roth...
I'd strongly prefer Rogers if we aren't getting Cromartie. I also wish we would've seriously pursued Chris Carr or Richard Marshall, but that's water under the bridge at this point.
It seems that this is a good thing, since it seems that the first team a player visits is for the tour and a free meal, then they go and sign with the team they really want. I wouldnt mind them taking a look at Rogers. Or maybe even Brimes from Atl. Anyone knows what his tender is?
Rotoworld believes this would be a sub-package signing, not as a starter. So it would be either Cro or Wilson at #2, with Strickland and Buchanon as #3 & #4...
I sincerely doubt the team will sign Buchanon as a replacement for Cromartie. It'll mean they believe in Wilson, which is fine by me. Buchanon & Strickland would give us terrific depth.
This is a backup plan in case Cro doesn't sign with the Jets. Wilson will start with Buchanon playing nickel or dime. The guy defended 18 passes last season in that role. I'm not too upset with him getting a chance as a dime back.
Buchanon is a perfectly acceptable solution at the nickel with Wilson as the starter. He'd also allow us the cash for another mid-level FA without scrambling to free up cash.
I agree. I only see us signing Buchanon to play the nickel if we fail to re-sign Cromartie as the starter opposite Revis.
