We had to of had over 12 million since the whole Nnamdi ordeal, which means they could've easily went out and signed Braylon, but instead we sign Plaxico who is 33 and hasnt played football in years. I know he was great for Eli but why not Braylon for the extra 3 million to add youth and continuity? Cro seems like he lost interest from the Jets being that we've heard nothing... So what is Tanny planning to do with the money? (passrusher trade?)

What is this love affair with Braylon

He isn't Larry Fitzgerald! I like him. He had a nice year complimenting Santonio.

Do you know how you avoid cap hell as a team? You don't overpay for nice players!! You overpay for your stars (Holmes, Mangold, Revis) and you add bargains around them.

I'm not saying Edwards would not have been nice. But not at $6M+ annually for multiple years. And that is conservative. We need to sign a CB, and maybe even a safety and LB. I'd like to see Ellis back as well.

Again, don't fall in the love with the player. Respect the position and the need.

We just addressed it big time at half the cost for one year. Very well done in my book.

    Cro is chasing the money.

So unless we go bankrupt he will continue to be interested.

And Braylon would of wanted a 4-5 year contract, not a 1 year deal

In my opinion it's retarded to think Burress will have anything near the impact Braylon could have had on this team...

Braylon and Burress are two similar players but Braylon does one exceptionally that Burress may not be able to do so well anymore: get open deep.

Cro would be nice to have back, but no way in hell should they over pay him. I still think we need another CB for depth and to push kyle wilson- thought chris carr wouldve been perfect (any other CB that would do the same still available?). I still think another safety could be added unless Lowery is ready to step up and be a ball hawk.

Also, Braylon's DUI last season shows that he's still not matured to the level that we can be sure he won't make that next dickhead move that gets him suspended.

I think the problem for Braylon is that he wants closer to number one money. Holmes gets ten mill per year. Edwards prob wasn't taking six especially for one year. Plax will be motivated and behave or he knows he will never get another deal. Edwards in close to the same situation got a DUI.

We have Holmes at big money who's a top receiver and we have Cotchery who's a solid fill-in, #3 type. That's enough continuity where you can plug in fill-ins around them. You don't have to spend $20 million at the WR position (particuarly when you have other needs) just because you currently have it.

Plus clearly the FO looked at a long-term deal as a risk for Braylon, both financially and on the field since he went off the reservation the last time he signed a big-money contract.

Yes, but he's not on a five year, $40M contract.

It's not retarded; it's merely unlikely.

Burress doesn't need to get open. You just throw the ball up high and he comes down with it. Don't know how many times I've watched him pluck a ball from the air when he was covered like bees on honey.

    excellent point

So a FA period of Holmes, Cromartie, Plaxico and (hopefully) Heap? If somebody told you that immediately following the AFC title game this is what we would have done I think we would have all signed up for it.

Yeah but Burress makes up for that by being a much better endzone threat.

Also, I think if Braylon would've been willing to take $6 mil a year, he would've been resigned, but all indications are he wanted #1 WR money.

For people wonder why Tanny isn't out there spending: I have a crazy idea.

Tanny had to mortgage a little of the future, create later cap problems by pushing 2011 money into later years in order to potentially sign Nnamdi Asomugha.

Is it possible the team has decided that no other player out there, is worth that kind of mortgage, so we pull back the reins a little bit so ensure better future cap health.

Just because we freed up, say, 15M to sign Nnamdi and a few minimum guys to fill a team out... doesn't mean we now should spend it.

And he's not gonna get it.

There's a reason that Braylon's trail is ice cold. I don't know how much he's asking but whatever it is it's too high to even get a sniff out of teams.

I wouldn't be shocked if he's back for $6-6.5 mill, but no more than that.

  19. We should set aside half our cap space for WRs, it would seem.

I like Braylon, too, but to a degree, and at a price. If that price is too high, then no thanks.
