2011 New York Jets Free Agency Thread

  1. It does when restructuring allows for greater cap flexibility before the season, yes. I'm not sure why this is so difficult to understand.

Yes, because the Jets can sign other players to keep this team at the top of the league.

How many different ways do you need to hear it?

    You know you two agree.

It's clearly good for the 2011 Jets for Sanchez to convert salary to a bonus; it makes more cap space.

It is generally good for Sanchez as well-it moderately increases his long term job security.

Sanchez doesn't lose a dime and he gets money quickly so it's no skin off his nose. The only thing he's losing is a chance to maybe use his leverage and screw the team (you need cap space and you want me to restructure? give me an extra year at $20 million guaranteed jerkface).

#Jets braintrust (front office and coaching staff) reached out to Antonio Cromartie today to let them know that they want him back.

Thankfully Sanchez and his camp aren't total dicks. He won't ask for 20 million unless he wins this team a ring.

hmmm, so Braylon is still non grata at this point?

It shouldn't surprise me because this is what I expected. Maybe they'll let him test the market before anything substantial happens.

i do get it. some players would tell a front office to fuck off. yes he isnt losing $$, but he is helping us retain our players, which he doesnt have to do.

I understand the benefit to the team. All I'm saying is that because Sanchez is restructuring it doesn't make him a saint. The way his contract was put together they were always going to have to make some type of adjustment between the 2nd and 3rd year. I appreciate that he's doing it, but the restructure actually benefits him and the team. No one is asking him to take a pay cut, just change the structure of his contract.

When a player decides to take less money so the team can sign more players let me know. Then I will praise them.

Does it really make any difference to Sanchez if the Jets pay him his 2011 salary as a bonus today or as a salary spread out over the season?

Sanchez will have extra job security at the back end of his contract and the Jets gain cap space in 2011 but lose cap space in 2012 and 2013.

Lots of players do that. Pace and Scott come to mind. Brady has and I'm pretty sure Brees and Manning both have. It's nice but it's not that big a deal.

Why would a player tell his team to fuck off? They are giving him the same amount of money just a few months earlier and he has better job security going forward.

Why would any player not restructure their contract if they get the same amount of money but it gives the team more flexibility this year?

  18. I am really sick of the Redskins making runs at Jets players. Seriously, it's tedious, Snyder.
