Instead of the 500 so and so got cut threads likely coming by Thursday, figured we can add cut updates here. First casualty: McGahee:

Willis McGahee informed of his release

We have our first post-lockout transaction to pass along.

Okay, it won’t officially be a transaction until Thursday. But we’re going to hear a lot of reports of agreements, deals, and other planned player moves all week long before anything is official.

The first such report is no surprise: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Willis McGahee has been informed he will be released. We included McGahee on our list of players likely to get cut because he has a $6 million salary and seemed unwilling to take a pay cut.

McGahee will make less money wherever he signs, but he becomes one of the more intriguing running backs out there in a deep market.

I will do my best to move all "sign this beast" type threads to this thread until the possibility of signing such a beast becomes likely.

you can add Kelly Gregg, Todd Heap and Derrick Mason to that list from the Ravens. All are being released.

I imagine someone gives Heap an offer--but he would be an interesting 2 TE for the offense.

as long as he is not in baltimore, he killed us last year.

Hopefully Cumberland can turn into something dangerous. A two-TE offense with Keller and Cumberland at his full potential could be something quite entertaining.

I'm still on the Kiwanuka bandwagon, at least for a workout.

I'll take Maynard and Akers. Both would be upgrades. Nevermind. Maynard has gotten pretty weak it seems.

Latest cuts: Leonard Davis, Gerald Hayes, Rich Seubert
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 26, 2011, 1:01 PM EDT

Transactions are happening so fast, we’re just going to combine a few of the latest into one post.

    1. Florio learned via a league source that Cardinals linebacker Gerald Hayes was told he was let go. That move is no surprise; we’re curious if Joey Porter will also be let go.

    2. Cowboys guard Leonard Davis got the axe, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Davis wasn’t a terrible big money signing by the Cowboys a few years back, but his decline started to pick up and he wasn’t worth $6 million in 2011. Tackle Marc Colombo has not been cut yet; the team is working to lower his salary.

    3. Giants guard Rich Seubert was informed he’ll be cut, according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger. The 32-year-old is coming off a major knee surgery, so it’s not a shock. The Giants were overdue to make their offensive line younger for a few years and that process has started.

    SIGN THESE BEASTS:

Roy Williams, Marion Barber done in Big D

The Dallas Cowboys are saying goodbye to wide receiver Roy Williams and running back Marion Barber.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told Williams and Barber today that they shouldn’t show up to training camp because they’re going to get cut, ESPNDallas.com is reporting. Williams and Barber are one of a number of cuts the Cowboys are making; guard Leonard Davis is already gone, as is kicker Kris Brown, and tackle Marc Colombo may be next.

Williams has been a major disappointment since the Cowboys shipped first- and third-round picks to the Lions to acquire him. Williams signed a five-year, $45 million contract with $20 million guaranteed with the Cowboys, but he managed just 1,324 receiving yards in 40 games in Dallas.

Barber has been a similar disappointment: He signed a seven-year, $45 million deal in 2008, with $16 million guaranteed, but he has failed to become a 1,000-yard runner and last year gained just 374 yards on 3.3 yards a carry.

Roy Williams would be an interesting idea if the Jets lose Braylon. It is not like he is devoid of talent. Does he have anything left? He could be a low cost signing that could pay off well.

I like the Akers idea as well. If Folk is gone, give him a look.
