I would rather have Braylon over Holmes period. Not just due to the money issue but how I think they will perform and contribute to the team. Honestly I think if we could get Santana on the cheap (I'm sure he wants to win) he would fill the role of Holmes just fine.
With the salary cap number being so low....I am starting to doubt that we will keep both of our top free agent WR's.....Given the choice I would resign Holmes given his speed, route running (that quick slant is automatic) and his ability to make the big catch. meaning Braylon walks. As a compliment, I would sign Randy Moss as the reciever opposite Santonion (GASP!!) for a number of reasons: I trust Rex to keep him motivated enough to give consistent effort and he will have a chip on his shoulder to prove the haters (90 % of America) that he isn't washed up. Remember in 07 Belicheck had Randy in order and you didnt hear a peep out of him Yes he isn't multifaceted as a receiver but I trust Santonio, Cotch, keller and Kerley to handle the underneath stuff. Throwing it up to Randy and telling him to go get it wouldn't be bad at all. No matter what you say about Randy, as a defense you have to pay extra attention to him which will free up Santonio and others You try playing for 3 different teams, learning 2 new systems in the span of weeks all in one season and see how productive you are!!!!
Randy Moss is the best option. You guys may not like him, but if he wants it, he's one of the best in the game...even at his age. If Moss signs with a winner, he'll play hard.
Moss will play hard until he's asked to draw defenders away from the real targets, then he'll jog at half speed like he did for the Patriots. Moss has no business being on a team that wants to win. I don't care where it is.
This is all hypothetical of course, but if Moss makes one or two big plays a game as a fourth option, vertical threat behind Edwards/Holmes, Keller, and Cotchery, then I wouldn't give a fuck he wanted to half ass it during certain plays. Randy Moss is the NFL safety's worst nightmare during pass plays. His presence alone would make a difference, especially for over-the-middle targets like Keller, Cotchery, and Kerley. Out of these three guys, I'd take Randy Moss and there's no doubt in my mind. Straight cash, homie.
There are a few players I would NEVER want to see in a Jets uni' and Moss is most definetly on the list. If the FO/CS is smart they will sign our own FA's so Sanchez can continue to grow with his recievers and thus give him the best chance of improving on last season.
In addition to questions whether Moss is done, your first point nails it, and explains why more thinking about Moss is a waste of time. Moving along here...
I would rather keep both, obviously, but the new cap is going to make it almost impossible. I would rather keep Edwards and get a guy like Santana Moss, but under this scenario I would take a chance on Burress. He will be the cheapest option, will take a role as a 3rd or 4th option without complaining, and has everything to prove.
Burress will not go somewhere where he's the 3rd option. He'll go to a team where he's #2. That's why the Eagles are the best option. They can move Maclin or Jackson into the slot.
Under this scenario Braylon has signed elsewhere. Plax would be the #1 downfield option, and the #2 option overall.
Plax would still be the third option out of those three though. If Burress wants to start, he'll go to St. Louis.
if, and this is a big if, Plaxico can quickly return to his old form opposite of braylon, that's two huge receivers who can take away a lot of high passes from defenders. i still want Santonio to stay though.
He'd be the third read, but he'd be on the outside and a RZ threat. I didn't think of STL. They do need someone for Bradford
