Then why wasn't Revis DPOY candidate last season. Why were Clay Matthews, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, Peppers, Harrison, Wake etc more popular candidates than Revis? Revis did not dominate like he did in 09, you could attribute it to injury. Revis has not yet matched Ware's consistency.
Simple answer, Revis does not get the stats that a Harrison or Ware does, sacks and picks get you noticed in this stat heavy era of football. They do not throw on him as much as they did a few years ago, and he rarely ever blitzes, so he does not make any splash plays, just shuts his assigned player down. Revis is the most consistent talent on the Jets, to say he has not been is wrong.
Revis is one of the most dominant players in the league at his position, and possibly in the history of the league. Anyone that doesn't understand that is speaking from ignorance. Ware had a couple of years where he was the most dominant at his position in the league. But he's never been in that argument in terms of history of the league, and since he's exiting the prime of his career, he never will.
Polamalu is the only other guy I put in Revis' category with regards to dominance at the position. Otherwise, I honestly believe that Revis does his job better than anybody else in the league at any other position.
That's true for any player in the league. Ray Lewis got hurt, he had an off year. Same with Polamalu and Reed, and Tom Brady after his knee got turned into spaghetti. It's kind of stating the obvious.
