Just saying even though Cromartie is the most overrated, most people I know don't consider him elite. And people know Sanchez is inconsistant but has that winning mentality.
I agree, watch the violence of his hits into the line, taking on guys that out way him by a good margin and just blasting into them to create a lane for someone else. Bart does not get the stats, so people automatically say he is overrated. He is the vocal leader of the defense, and makes the plays some fans just can't see.
For me Shonn Greene is overrated, he has not produced the numbers to be considered a number one back yet.
He hasn't been a #1 back yet though. I kind of agree b/c we see the talent he has but I am expecting an explosion by Shonn this year as he becomes the feature back.
Shonn Greene is just not getting the carries to generate big numbers, his YPC average is pretty good though.
Voting for Cromartie as well. He's too tall and lanky to cover the quicker, shiftier receivers, and lacks the physicality to play the bigger, stronger receivers in the league. His only game is playing up tight on a receiver and sprinting with them on deep routes. But beyond that, I consider him a liability. Oh, and he's absolutely terrible against the run.
I remember the opinion of him before he was cut, a lot of people on this board were calling for his head. It seemed like after we resigned him most of that talk went away.
How can you say Brad Smith is an overrated football player when he gets 3 balls thrown to him a year? He produces when he is given the opportunity, but the opportunities are limited to ST and Wildcat. If he were being put as a #2 receiver on this team because of the production he exhibited on ST, then I could see the argument being made. But he is relegated to a key, but somewhat minor, role and he always produces to the level expected. I like Santonio a lot, and hope we keep him. Let me be clear about that. But his real production is always during clutch moments, and he is somewhat inconsistent during games generally. How much of that is caused by a second-year quarterback is debateable, but if you pushed the timing of when he catches his TDs to earlier in the game, then his production would be viewed more on an absolute basis, which is not as stellar looking even when you consider his four-game suspension. Underrated: DeVito, for sure.
That is kind of what I mean. With the glimpses he has shown he should have taken the number one back job by now. Not have it given to him. I hope your right.
Some of the crap in this thread is ridiculous.. Bart Scott is a glorified cheerleader? Devin McCourty is apparently the second coming of Revis? Really? It's amazing how easy it is to pay corner and get picks when your team is up 20 points every game and the other team has to take chances down the field isn't it? How'd he do in the playoffs? Oh that's right.. Braylon Edwards carried him into the end zone for a touchdown. Most overrated on the Jets.. Leonhard is a good choice. Solid player and a coach out on the field, but some Jets fans act like he's an elite safety. Maybe Cotchery? I love him and think he's a good player and a personal favorite, but again a lot of Jets fans overrate him imo. Brad Smith is also a good candidate, especially now that there's less of an emphasis on kick returns.
Shonn Greene. This guy has to start getting serious about his football career. You want to be the man- you have to have to get in shape. you can't make the impact sitting on the sidelines.
I don't see how Brad Smith is overrated, at least on here. People have been complaining about him for years here, he can't do this and he can't do that, and every time you look up in a big game there he is breaking a run or a return of some sort.
Is this a joke or were u serious? Cuz last time I checked, its not Shonn's call to be the runner behind Sanchez.
a 2nd rd pick is incredibly high compensation. We got Holmes for a 5th and holmes is a MUCH better WR than Cromartie is a corner. We wound up paying through the roof for Cromartie which is part of the reason we need to re-sign him.
