What I'm saying is that nowadays big companies like to show successful guys coming from certain social/ethnic groups so they can reach those markets better. If, say, Nike personally sponsors Sanchez they will have much more success among NFL fans with mexican/south-american origins (at least that's their train of thoughts). Since the population with hispanic roots in the US is growing very fast and since there aren't many hispanic NFL players (let alone QBs) one can see why companies would like to throw big $$$ at Sanchez. PS MikeHonco said it better than me in his post... only read it now.
Sanchez's contract has nothing to do with Holmes and Edwards. The issue is do you want to pay 15 million to your two WR's. I'd love to have Edwards back but there is a business side to this and other players to sign. Holmes and Cromartie are the prorities, in my opinion.
If it came down to it i dont believe sanchez would have to big of a problem down sizing his contract to bring back his weapons but we also dont know exactly how mark feels about him not being at jets west. He knows just like the rest of us who wants to be a jet and who is willing to be a jet if the price is right. I personaly believe that holmes and cromartie will not be returning to the jets this season. If it does go the way i have created in my mind (i might be crazy but fingers crossed) Holmes will be dawning the black and silver and hopefully we will have the best back field in the NFL. Revis has alot of pull on this team being rex's obsession and i wouldnt be to suprised to see both of revis's buddys end up in the green and white this year despite what we think of moss. Lets face it Rex is the best thing to happen to the jets in a very long time but at the end of the day the jets will always be the jets so why is so hard to fathom that rex will turn to a older not what he use to be but still has something player again? I mean if its not moss it will be someone like him with mabey a tad bit more in the tank.
Qoute: Mambo9 Also considering your 3rd WR is making around 4 million $. --------------------------------------------------------- He is gone like the wind. We didnt draft two late round wr's because they look good in green. That extra money is going to Brad Smith.
can you imagine if we brought in ocho cinco? a mex qb throwing tds to a mex receiver!!!! :breakdance:
Maybw they can talk Revis into renegotiating to free up some money - he can take a cut - he's a team-player right ?
That's Peyton Manning and Tom Brady money at current rates. Even with a bit of inflation, would winning two more games at the end of the season than he has managed thus far brings him a payday that size? I realise he's at the opposite end of his career to Brady or Manning, but still.
Sanchez will have the whip hand in any renegotiations given what's likely to be a pretty tight cap for the Jets so you could imagine his agents will try to be very aggressive (e.g. we'll restructure but only if you give us another year and $20 million in new money, something like that).
Cotchery with his injuries and lack of production should be taking a pay cut. His sure-hands got a big case of the drops this past season and it looks like more of the same could happen. Rework his contract and extend him for 2 more seasons seems like a better option. Sanchez merited his contract on his draft position. If you factor in his NFL success, then his contract will be tricky to rework. Of course, the savings could be enormous this year for the Jets, but in later years we would get rocked by his contract and potentially get a lot less return for it. Do not expect the Jets to approach Sanchez about something like this. It would likely need to be Sanchez who prompted the issue. Want to see this happen? Tweet Mark the idea.
While his agents might be punks about it, Sanchez's contract does cry out to be reworked. His salary goes from 15.25 (including a roster bonus) to 11.25 to 5 million over the next three years, and he has about 2.5 million in pro-rated signing bonuses each year, so he has cap values of 17.75, 14.25, 8. If you recharacteritize a bunch of that as a signing bonuses you could spread out the cap hits more evenly-for example if you moved $9 million of 2011 salary to a signing bonus his cap hits would be 11.75, 17.25, 11. You then do the same thing next year or extend him long term. Tanny will have no problems proposing a reworking of the contract. The bigger question is whether Sanchez will let Sanchez's agents be &**holes about it.
Although I agree, I don't see any player accepting a pay cut with the uncertainty of the new CBA looming
