Hi there. I'm an aussie who is heading over to the states for my sister's wedding in September. I am going to organise tickets for about 10 of my and my sister's friends to go to the Jets v Cowboys game (hoping it actually goes ahead). I am quite excited about the idea of getting a parking space and having a tailgating party before the game. However I am a bit clueless as to how it all works so had a few questions I was hoping people in the know could answer for me:

    1. What is the best way to get parking passes? (We are getting our tickets on stubhub and some seem to have passes included but I was wondering if there is a way to buy a parking pass from somewhere else)
    2. I gather there are different passes for different sections - are there good spots to tailgate in every section or should I be looking to get a particular colored pass? Any particular spots that are particularly good for tailgating?
    3. It is a Sunday evening game - is tailgating still just as common for late games? I figure it will be a long day still in September so should be right?
    4. Kind of unrelated to the tailgating, but as I mentioned, I am looking at getting tickets from stubhub. Is this one of the better ways to get tickets or am I missing a much easier/better method?

Many thanks in advance for any tips you can give me.

We have tea at 4 and marvelous little crumpets and light chat before the game usually.

    1) Either way. If you can get the pass included with the tickets that's the easiest. If not you can find one by itself.

    2) No matter where you are, people will be tailgating. Yellow pass is good because it's not too expensive and not too far of a walk.

    3) Every game = Tailgating. If they played at 2 in the morning people would be there tailgating

    4) Stubhub is probably the best way to get tickets these days.

    Cheers! Have a great time.

You can try craigslist.org for tickets as well

Parking space + alcoholic beverages + football + good company = good tailgating. Have fun, see ya there!

stubhub or nfl ticket exchange are fine for getting your tickets. Stubhub is reliable and nfl ticket exchange is tied in by ticketmaster to the actual season tickets you are buying so you are sure to not get screwed with counterfeit or tickets with invalid barcodes.

I would avoid ebay or craigslist because the list of horror stories is long. It is quite easy for a STH to take his original tickets, go to "manage my tickets" and reissue new computer tickets to himself with a new barcode and then sell you his now worthless original tickets on one of those two places

Generally won't happen with stubhub and 100 percent certain not to happen with ticketexchange

Imagine that you are having a barbecue for 10 ppl in a parking lot. Now imagine that scene multiplied by 1000 with all the other fans there.

A cooler full of booze and food for the grull. The rest is up to you.

Yeah tailgating is crazy at the evening games, and at the day games too. lol

Buy your tickets wherever you get the best deal, eBay is another site to check.

Stick with the above advice. I'd throw in:

    5) Get there early and you control your spot. What's early? For this game, maybe 3-4 hours in advance. It's the opener and the lot will fill up quickly.

    6) There are no "better" spots, really. The cars that pull in will determine how lively the area is... but they're all good, IMO. Pick out a good spot and let it rip.

Make sure the lockout is lifted before heading to the Stadium for the 9/11 Sunday night game or you might just be the only one out there tailgating LOL!

On a serious note, I would go with Stubhub now if your are planning on buying tickets before STH's receive them or ticket exchange after tickets are mailed out. Stay away from Craigslist there are too many ticket scams out there.

    Keys to a great tailgate:
    Get there early
Bring a ridiculous amount of liquids and foods. Better to have stuff left at the end of the day/night than run out too early
Camping-type chairs and folding tables (very underrated)
Stay for at least an hour or two afterward, let traffic die down, if you're not driving, drink a couple more

Pretty much just use common sense and bring what you like. It's basically just a gigantic party in a parking lot. Your tailgate is only as fun as you want it to be.
Stub Hub and NFL ticket exchange are both excellent.

    TicketExchange was great!

I am coming over from Scotland for the game and got my tickets from the official Ticketmaster TicketExchange because I had read some online horror stories for every service except for that one. I obviously don't have the tickets yet but the guarantees seem to be much better for protecting you against fraudulent tickets and you can get them emailed directly to you so you can have them as soon as possible (that option is only available on certain seats but it is labelled clearly when you're selecting them).

Can't believe my tickets are bought actually, I have been watching college and pro ball on Sky and ESPN for 10 years now but this will be my first live game and I don’t remember being as excited about anything! My tickets are for Section 203A. I was actually wondering what the rules for tailgating are if you're don't have a vehicle? I think we’ll get the train to the stadium but are still eager to take in the full gameday experience.... is it acceptable etiquette to just bring some cans and see if you can join a group? I have been to New York twice before and us Scots always seem to get a great reception so I’m hoping it’s not going to be a problem but don’t want to be too presumptive!

I am praying like I’m sure all of you are that this lockout gets sorted as soon as possible so that the game on 9/11 definitely goes ahead. Hopefully see some of you in September… GO JETS!!!!

Smart idea to get your tickets from Ticketmaster... IMO Ticketmaster or StubHub is the ONLY way to go for the reasons you've mentioned.

Tailgate crashing may be more of a challenge. I'm not saying it's unlikely (because I've even done this a time or two over the last 30 years), but it takes the right set of circumstances.

You're going to have to be an awfully good schmoozer to begin with. Most tailgate groups are people who do this every week with basically the same people, so it tends to be somewhat clickish. And they tend to bring enough food for themselves without overdoing it, to eliminate waste. Plying with cans of beer sometimes works but again, they usually have enough of their own and that is one area which they tend to overbuy on. I've shared stuff with other guys over the years, but it's usually a crew that I know just from being in the same section of a particular parking lot for a while.

There used to be a crew with a big green duece-and-a-half (a 2 1/2-ton military vehicle) that threw huge parties for pedestrians in the parking lot. The truck had beer spigots on it and they had a huge BBQ going and open to the general public. It was a blast to go over there sometimes... they were always at 16E or 16F in the old parking lot. Even had their own website. I have no idea where they are now because of all the Parking Lot Police bullshit Woody put us through with the new stadium, but they're probably out there somewhere. If they are, perhaps someone on here will know where they went to. They work on voluntary donations. You just walk up and drop a $10 in the coffee can and start eating and drinking. Maybe somebody here has a link to thier website.

You might also try 17a... he may be receptive. But you're going to have to bring some girls with you who are unabashed about flashing their tits.

    Thank you!

Thanks so much for the advice!

You make some really valid points and when you put it like that I can see why joining a tailgate party may not be as straightforward as I thought. Having said that I wasn't trying to be cheap and would be happy to contribute to the cost of the food and drink for the group, I just don't need a car for any other reason the rest of the trip because I'm staying in downtown Manhatten. To be honest I wouldn't even be that bothered about eating anything, it was more about meeting football fans and really getting a taste of the full experience of an NFL game. As you suggested I think we'll just take a couple of laps round the stadium as see what we come across.... hopefully we find that big monster truck because that sounds immense!

    Thanks again,

    Scott

PS we are arriving in NYC on the 1st of September so hopefully we'll have met some girls by then!!
