Add me to Braylon's camp. I was siding with Holmes when the initial poll and discussion was going on mid season but Edwards has been winning me over. Just another twig in the fire. Wish I had more to add but the general concensus has me covered. Yes, Tone probally has more talent, but I just feel Edwards is primed to elevate his role. I get just as much enjoyment spotting a crucial block as watching a great completion come together in the endzone. 6 points is 6 points, I just don't get to follow the former as much on television. Both recievers can execute these options.
NO ONE is criticizing Holmes for wanting to get paid. I don't know where that idea comes from, but it's been tossed at everyone who criticizes his actions. Again, the problem isn't that he wants the fat contract he hasn't gotten yet and deserves. The problem is what he's saying right now. He should seek the best contract he can get, but he should do it the right way. If he's a UFA, by all means go to the team willing to pay the most. If he's an RFA, you sign the tender and you let Tanny work a contract for you. The Jets don't want Holmes (or any receiver with a young QB) for one more season; they want him long term. If that's not going to happen, they'd deal him to someone who would pay him. He has NOTHING to worry about, and yet he's making waves.
Another thing in the Jets favor is how they handled his DUI. The team stood by him, regardless of the backlash, other than a one quarter suspension. I would hope that it plays into his mindset, and how Ryan runs a team like a family.
unfortunately the jets won't be negotiating with either braylon or holmes. enter sports agents stage left. it's the job of the all mighty agents to get block buster deals for their players. that's how they get a reputation and more players. braylon's agent with push him HARD to take the biggest contract offer he can get him. After all, agents get paid a percentage. so if braylon turns down a 20% higher offer to play for the jets, his agent gets stiffed 20% on his commission. so bottom line a player has to really really really want to play for the jets to overcome his agent's objections and take a smaller contract.
^^ ultimately the player is the boss though. If the player says this is whats going to happen, then the agent has to give in, or get fired. And getting 20% less comission on a deal is a hell of a lot better than watching another agent get the comission altogether... Also, its not like it has never happened before that an agent has allowed a player to sign for a smaller sum of money than expected... Not all agents are Alvin Keels here...
I agree with this. Michael Crabtree and Dez Bryant had almost identical situations and the same agent. Drafted one year apart, one of them held his team hostage and held out well into the NFL season, the other was the first pick to sign a rookie contract in their class.
People on here and Twitter are already complaining that he wants too much without even knowing. As a fan his comments do suck, but he can't just say I want to be a Jet only. According to Manish he'll be a Jet in 2011 so that's all I care about right now.
