agreed. Edwards has said it numerous times he wants to be here. Tanny would be an idiot if he didnt want him back. I honestly think the only way Edwards isn't a Jet next year, is if we don't give him some kind of a reasonable offer.
Thanks for posting this. This has been his mantra for a long time now. He REALLY wants to be a Jet, but he's been very clear (and rightfully so) that the deal has to be in his best interest as well. I hope the FO comes through.
The only thing that concerns me is that he was the one major FA who we could have extended before the end of the league year. I thought he'd be locked up before March. The fact that he wasn't likely means that they're waiting to see how the labor situation sorts itself out, but it could also mean that they're planning to put cash in Holmes' hands first if possible.
These are the players the Jets need. Guys who want to help build a SB Champion team. Guys who want to be Jets who are not just looking for a pay day. Sign this beast to another deal!
nice to see a player who wants to be here because he wants to win...not for a big payday. IJR is right, the FO needs to sign him.
Would be great to have him back. He is not only a deep threat, but a good run blocker as well. In a perfect world, both Holmes and Edwards return.
It's not only good that he wants to play here but he may also be willing to leave some money on the table to remain a jet. Tanny could use some extra dough to work with
Lets see if he wants to be a Jet if he does not get top dollar. He's a 1A receiver, a level below Holmes and others. Love the guy, but I still want Santonio first, don't care what he said, Holmes won 4, FOUR games for us last year. We never had a play maker like him.
Edwards does things for this offense that the average fan just doesn't understand, most notably in the running game. He won't command the same money as a guy like Holmes; all he's ever said is he won't play for a bottom contract. He's never said he wants a top one. One other thing. Holmes was clutch, and he's a playmaker. Still, I HATE when people argue that he single-handedly won those games. He made clutch plays when we needed him to, but games are 60 minutes long, and a hell of a lot had to happen to put us in position to win. I want them both, but I know which one will come with a contract that best allows us to field a complete and dominant team.
It was mentioned that Edwards is one of the best blocking Wr's in the NFL. He does a lot of the little dirty things many of us fans miss. I like Santonio as a player, and he is the better player of the 2, but Edwards, oddly enough is less of a diva. Geez Santonio, seems to cry a lot either about sitting a play or 2 and/or other assorted bullshit in the press. Funny, but I never thought I would see the day where Edwards was less of a diva than another Jets WR. I am kind of meh on giving Holmes a huge cap breaking contract when in comp against 15 other teams. He isn't giving shit for a discount. imo I think Edwards would be more likely to give the Jets a some leeway contract wise where they can sign other important players. Holmes will tell Tanny to stick it up his ass, and that would be well with in his right.......
I still think they're both back next year, I bet they'll find a way to make it work whichll include sanchez restructuring
Santonio should take PR lessons from Braylon. love that guy. i knew it last year when he said "I don't care about a contract. i just want to win"
Spending all those years in Cleveland will do that to you. Holmes won hsi SB, he knows he's one J from a 1 year suspension. Holmes is the big time playmaker but IMO the offense clicked better early in the year when Holmes was suspended sans the Ravens game.
Braylon Edwards has been my girlfriends favorite Jet since the trade so I'm going to be very excited to buy her a Edwards throwback jersey. His enthusiasm last season made me really like him a lot too.
And there is the most important fact regarding Holmes' attitude. Now that he already has a ring the money is probably more important for him. That is why I really don't begrudge him saying it in public. That's why he isn't talking like Braylon. Braylon spent 4 1/4 seasons on one of the least talented, most poorly managed teams in the league. He's probably more willing to leave a little money on the table if it means being on a team that gives him the best chance to get a ring. Sanchez and Braylon were frequently on a different page when Braylon was first traded to the Jets. This season Braylon and Sanchez clicked a lot more as evident by the fact that Sanchez was no longer hitting Braylon in the face mask on deep routes. The suspension took a huge chunk of time away from Sanchez and Holmes developing the kind of rapport you want between your starting QB and WR and introducing him later in the season - despite the fact that he had been on the team since TC - threw off the balance that was established between Sanchez, Edwards, Keller and Cotchery when the 3rd WR option on the field was [name] and didn't really command that much respect or attention within the offense. Once Holmes came in, the entire philosophy behind the offense had to shift(or should have shifted) to accommodate the talent he brought on the field. If the Jets manage to keep Holmes and Edwards then we'll probably see some a noticeable improvement with Holmes like we did with Edwards.
