I'm a little curious to know why this in the Jets Forum. Eh, I guess it's Jets related indirectly, but seems more suited to the NFL Forum. It will fit in more nicely when Ole Little Hands takes a shot and fumbles courtesy of the Jets during the Season (rubs hands together). :)

Jay Fiedler is more then a solid starter, if you prize winning percentage over anything else.

QB's most certainly arent defined by wins. It's part of the equation, but the team is a bigger part of it.

You didnt watch any Vikings games in 2004 where Moss was a decoy, did you?

Let me answer for you to make this a little bit easier- No, you didnt.

Moss was provided nothing more then the average attention a WR gets, if that. He wasnt double teamed, coverage was not rolled towards him.

What, exactly, do you expect a quarterback to do to help his team win other then play well?

No, I dont think all of his TO's contributed. Because I actually took the time to actually, uhh, educate myself.

    Culpepper's INT results-
    vs. TB
    #1- Punt
#2- INT in Red zone, score came off of a 71 yard Carnell Williams run
#3- Ensuing TB drive resulted in two kneel-downs for -2 yards.

So that's 0 points in one game.

    vs. Cincy
    #1- Resulted in 7 points
    #2- Punt
    #3- Punt
    #4- Resulted in 7 points
#5- Touchback, Cincy drove 80 yards

    vs. Atlanta
    #1- Punt
    #2- Turnover on downs

    vs. Chicago
    #1- Resulted in 7 points
    #2 -Turnover on downs

So, basically...Culpepper contributed 21 points. I'd research before you spoke up, next time.

How many great QBs have not been winning QBs?

I take it you watched every viking game in 2004 and can break down each game?

    You want research?

Game 1 vs. TB the D only gave up 24 pts:

    1st qtr:
INT at TB 7- prevented 3-7 points from Minny and put Minny D back on the field.
FUMBLES at Minny 48, bailed out by D who scores on INT return.

    2nd qtr:
FUMBLES at TB 48, luckily Minny D picks off a pass to get it back

    4th qtr:
INT at TB 6 preventing 3-7 pts again. If he doesn't throw those INTs and they settle for 3 they would be in the lead by now. TB scores 7 points after INT.

3rd INT- TB runs out clock

Summarize game 1: Minny loses 24-13, Daunte leads Minny O to 6 points, throws 3 INTs 2 prevent 3-7 points each and TB scores a TD off one them, fumbles twice. Daunte's TO's cost Minny at Minimum a 13 point swing and they only lost by 11.

Game 2 at Cincy D gives up 37 points:

    2nd Qtr:

INT at Cincy 42 leads to Cincy TD

    3rd qtr:
INT at Cincy 10 prevents 3-7 pts.

INT at Cincy 23 prevents 3-7 points(keep in mind the game was already over at this point so Cincy was more conservative).

INT at Minny 43 leads to Cincy TD

    4th qtr:
INT in Cincy EZ prevents 3-7 pts and leads to 3 Cincy pts.

Summary of Game 2: Daunte throws 5 INTs 3 of which lead to 17 pts and 3 of which prevent Cincy from scoring 3-7 points each so at a minimum the swing is 26 points. They lost by 29 but if one of those 3-7 turns into 7 the game is different. Of 37 pts 17 were b/c of Daunte in 2 games while the score says 24 and 37 w/ Daunte Tos the D gives up 17 and 20 which is respectable. On to the next game w/ Daunte TOs.

Game 4 at Atl D gives up 30 pts.

    1st Qtr:
INT at Atl 14 prevents 3-7 pts.

    3rd qtr:
FUMBLE at Atl 43 leads to 3 pts for Atl.

    4th qtr:
INT at Min 36, Atl goes for it on 4th down rather than try to score again.

Summary: Daunte throws 2 INTs 1 of which prevents 3-7 pts another he got lucky Atl didn't want to rub it on and he fumbled once leading to 3 Atl pts.

Game 5 at Chicago D gives up 28 pts:

    3rd qtr:
INT at Chi 42 leads to 7 pts for Chi.

    4th qtr:
INT at Chi 36 prevents 3-7 pts

Summary: Throws 2 INTs 1 leads to 7 Chi pts and another prevents at least 3 pts.

Game 6 vs. GB D gives up 20 pts.

    2nd qtr:
FUMBLE at GB 35 preventing 3-7 pts and leadin to 7 pts for GB.

Summary: Fumbles once leading to 7 pts for GB and possibly taking away 3-7 pts for Minny.

    Summarizing all 5 games:

Game 1 D gives up 24 but 7 were the result of Daunte TO so D gave up 17Game 2 D gives up 37 but 17 pts came off Daunte TOs so D gave up 20
Game 4 D gives up 30 but 3 are result of Daunte fumble so D gave up 27.
Game 5 D gives up 28 pts but 7 are a result of Daunte TO so D gave up 21.
Game 6 D gives up 20 but 7 are a rsult of daunte fumble so D gave up 13.

Actual points allowed per game: 27.8
Taking away TOs from daunte leading to points: 19.6
It's intersting that w/ Brad as QB the D gave up 17 pts a game very close to the # it would have been w/o Daunte TOs in the 5 games above.

before you start to open your mouth and crow make sure you look deeper into the #s. Fumbles count as turnovers too and look at all the points he prevented his team from scoring.

I'm not sure, because no one keeps a database of statistic for winning percentages for specific quarterbacks, but they do for teams. There is a pretty good reason for that.

I do know, off the top of my head, that Brad Johnson has the 2nd best winning percentage of any active QB, and that Jay Fiedler was one of the tops when he was a starter. I also know that David Woodley had a greater winning percentage then Dan Marino when you compare the two, as well.

No, but I actually saw some games where he was used as a decoy.

Before you went through all that hassle, you should have probabaly asked yourself what Culpepper fumbling has to do with him missing Moss.

Not to mention the idea that Culpepper is "costing" the offense points in certain situations is ridiculous. You dont know if he didnt throw the interception what would have happened.

Junc's just jealous....and it's obvious if you ask me.....

The Jets don't have a legit starting QB on their roster as far as I'm concerned. Pennington is done{we know it, you know it}, and Ramsey couldn't even beat out Brunell in Washington when he had the chance. As for Bollinger / Clemens, they're probably the two top QB on the Jets roster this year. Very sad.....

I'd take Brad johnson over daunte any day, Brad won't make te spectacular play but he makes plays and won't kill you.

Woodley was a full time starter for just 3 years compared to 16-17 for Dan. do you think that's a fiar comparison? and Dan made as many SBs as Woodley did.

The argument was about daunte's TOs hurting his defense, a fumble is a TO and they led to points and made the Minny D look worse.

it's safe to say that INts in or near the EZ(he had plenty) would at least have ld to 3 points. maybe it gets blocked, maybe the kicker slips but generally a 20 yd FG or so is automatic.

 Yep you git me, I wish we had a QB who comes up small in big spots com ing off major injury. I wish we had a QB whose former team was 8 games better when he didn't start than when he did. You got me.:drunk:

I don't know Chad is done, he might be but even at 80% or so last year he still beat your team fairly easily and put the game away ont he strength of a 7 for 7 drive. His shoulder is going to be in better shape heading into this year, he is almost back to normal- the big question is can his shoulder take a hit and we don't know that but he can throw and when he plays the Jets win alot more than they lose unlike Daunte w/ Minny.

That's whay I figured you'd do since you have no argument. Enjoy Daunte, I won't rub it in when i am right but please come back and admit you were wrong when he drivs you nuts failing in the clutch.

  9. Well judging by the fact that 2 years ago you were raving about the AJ Feeley trade and the selection of Vernon Carey....I'll take this as a compliment to the Jets future at QB.

What's to argue?? You're obviously convinced that Culpepper is nothing more than a mediocre QB, and that Miami will be no better with him than we were a year ago with Frerotte. There's no use in arguing with you on this subject based on that in my opinion.....

Don't worry Junc, I'm sure we'll enjoy watching him light up defenses this year. I have no doubt about that, he's a major upgrade at QB as far as most knowledgable people around the league are concerned. It's too bad you don't see it that way, but hey, what else would you expected from a Jets fan??...

I certainly don't remember raving about the Feeley trade. I may have said that he should be an upgrade over Feidler, but I was never doing cartwheels over it....

As for Carey, he's doing great. You have nothing on him entering only his 3rd season. OLman take time to develope, but I wouldn't expect you to know that....

  12. Actually I run a senior column based completely on the scouting and development of offensive linemen on the pro level. And yes it is true that certain linemen need about 2 years to development the proper technique to be truly successful at the position. But those 2 years usually include at least a few stints of playing time w/ relative success. But hey, aren't you the one who are always raving about your OL coach...saying he can turn any group of 5 into a quality group? If that's the case...you'd think theyd find a place foryour "Highly touted" and highly paid hot shot in the starting line-up.

Usually linemen who are taken in the 1st round, who have the physical skills that Carey has, can get by purely on talent. That is one of the reasons they get taken in the 1st round to begin w/. Here we are 3 years later, Carey has like 3 career starts..all of which he struggled mightily in. You factor in that his technique is still horrid at the point of attack..and perhaps he wasn't the "can't miss" prospect he was portrayed as.

But I wouldnt expect you to know that

    Whatever you say coach....

Oh, and just to let you know, Carey should be starting this year....

  14. Just like he was supposed to his rookie year when he got beat out by John St. Clair? The same John St. Clair who practically ruined Kurt Warner's career??

I'll believe it when I see it

Calling me on it? I have shredded every pro-daunte argument that is posted. Some of us aren't wowed by meaningless fantasy #s while others are. I like to win not send guys to the Pro Bowl.

260 lbs, 3 torn ligaments in his knee.

As others have pointed out that's all you really need to know aobut his long-term viability as Miami's QB. Whether he'll be a good QB for a season or two is another question completely. He put up some great numbers in Minnesota playing in a dome, whether that translates to good numbers playing in the Miami heat is unclear.

    I'm not all that worried.

So as long as Culpepper isn't trying to throw bombs with his repaired knee, he should be alright. Unlike a certain QB, who has had two surgeries on his throwing shoulder in consecutive seasons. Hmmm....now who could that be??

As far as Jets fans are concerned, I don't think it really matters. Even if Culpepper does make a comeback, and play better than expected this year, you'll still knock him based on his injury. I don't see that changing one bit regardless of how he performs, and as idiotic as it may seem, you guys will still find a way.....

You make it seem as if Culpepper has never played a game of football outdoors in his life. He wasn't born in a plastic bubble you know, and in case you forgot Culpepper is a native Floridian, and played his entire high school / college career in the state of Florida. UCF - "University of Central Florida". Good call....

    Neither are we.....
