It’s easy some times to forget about these guys after they go out for an injury. Out of sight, out of mind, the saying goes. I think as fans when a player is injured for the rest of the season, we can sometimes just put them out of our mind and continue focus on the current roster. I’ve never had a horrific sports injury like this one, but I did have a surgery that took an entire year to recover from once. But that didn’t even include physical rehab. It was probably the hardest thing (physically) I’ve ever endured. Reading about how Leonhard can only run a few steps at a time right now really hit home for just how bad his injury was, and just how long and hard the road back to football shape really is. I mean, here’s a guy who can barely run, months after his injury, and he’s working his way back to be in the shape he was before the injury. I think some times as fans its easy to forget about a player once they go out on injury. Time passes by and eventually they come back into the lineup, but it’s easy to sometimes forget just how hard they’re working every day rehabbing. I hope he comes back just as healthy as before, but man that is a tough road.
This was 1 of main concerns regarding the 2ndary. A fully-recovered & healthy JLeo would be a boost in establishing some stability & cohesiveness in the def bkfield anchored by #24.
Uncertainty about Leonhard imo both underlines the need to consider upgrading the safeties, and also the advisability of assuring Cromartie's return.
Leonhard had been in close contact with Jets head athletic trainer John Mellody, but the communication system changes now that NFL owners have imposed a lockout on players. Under conditions of the lockout, Leonhard may no longer have direct contact with Mellody. Leonhard can instead maintain a dialogue with the New Jersey doctors who performed the surgery, who may receive instructions from Mellody. === Mellody talking to the doctors who in turn talk to Leonhard. I think its cool but wasn't sure whether this kind of communication would be allowed.
I think its kind of silly they cant talk but instead have to use a middle man. Its not like it really is changing anything it is just making the situation annoying for Leonhard who has enough to worry about.
