    Stroud failing to make the cut in the Bills' 3-4 scheme surely makes him a lock to be an impact player in New England.

    This has been a regular thing for Belichick going back to 2001, when Bryan Cox was a big part of the first SB season. Of course some of them don't work out. That's true for any team. But what's the worst-case scenario? You pay them the vet minimum and cut them in or shortly after camp?

    Alge Crumpler was a FA signing last year and was a huge part of the team in 2010. An offensive captain, actually. And he was by all accounts an excellent mentor for Gronkowski and Hernandez.

    Gerard Warren was a key guy in 2010.

    Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes it isn't. But you don't worry about it at this point in the year. You stockpile players and let it all work itself out.

    Stroud used to be an absolute beast on the Jags. Chances are at this age he won't be too much of a factor though.
