My gut tells me that LaDainian Tomlinson won't be back. I'd love to see him here, but it's the better move to use that cash elsewhere. Brad Smith is most likely gone. I'm still holding out hope that both Edwards and Holmes will be re-signed. Ben Hartsock should be gone too.
Those were the two I wasn't sure about. I'd love to see Brad Smith stay, but I think it would be in his financial best interests to take a bigger payday elsewhere. The Jets won't pay him what others can.
Brad Smith Vernon Gholston Shaun Ellis LaDainian Tomlinson Bryan Thomas Antonio Cromartie Jason Taylor Damien Woody I have a feeling Tanny is going to cut as much money as possible, especially in the aging veterans looking for 4+ million per
I think other than the marginal players who are cycled through teams routinely, like who knows whether Cole will be back? that for starters and those in the regular rotation, it will end up being a small number of people. Gholston, for one. Beyond that it is hard to say, although I can see Jason Taylor not coming back. Jenkins is not likely to be the starter on opening day, either, but beyond that he may come back. I am not a fan of Thomas's, but I think it more likely than not he will be back.
The three guys that were supposedly on the chopping block last season were Alan Faneca, Shaun Ellis, and Bryan Thomas (two of which are obviously still on the roster). If we could sign a free agent pass rusher, Cactus would most likely be gone. That doesn't look possible so we'll probably have to resort to platooning him with a rookie. If Ellis is brought back, it will be on a 1-year deal. Either way, we'll have to replace both soon.
QB- Clemens FB- Richardson TE- Hartstock RT- Woody G- Rob Turner (read they're going to place a tender on him with no compensation, a team might swoop in and make him a starter) DE- Ellis DE- Pryce DE- Gholston OLB- Taylor CB- Cromartie (that deal Stanford Routt got changed my mind.. up until that I fully expected Cro to be brought back.. but now I can see a team giving him too big of an offer)
Guess we can take Tomlinson off the list, he's coming back. Not sure about Tony Richardson. It makes all the sense in the world for him to retire, but I wonder if he wants to give it one more try since the Jets are still a strong contender.
