I remember right after the draft it being mentioned that VG was the biggest gamble at the top of the draft. Not because the Jets 'reached' but because he had the highest potential to be great or a complete bust. The signs were there and unfortunately it turned out worse than any of us could've hoped...
draft nerds and draft talk is retarded. I love when the nerds start giving out their grades teh day after teh draft. Almost as retarded as going through the entire schedule bwhen the scheds come out and labeling games wins and losses
I used to be a draftnik -- but the costs of 4-5 draftbooks and the excessive time needed was too much for me. I buy one cheap newstand thing and use NFLDraftscout but it's easier to wait for Tanny to make his picks and then discover they are all the STEALS OF THE DRAFT
Hey I am so over this whole VG deal. The kid has proven to be a total bust and a total waste of a high pick and cap space. Yet, as you can see from the other players mentioned, it happens, just so happens the Jets now own the biggest bust yet. Make no mistake though , some other team will aquire that spot sooner or later. VG will always be our biggest disappointment now replaing Blair Thomas for the number one spot. VG will be gone from this team this year and could now move on to the UFL. I don't seen any team on this level wasting a team spot on him, after all, if Rex could not get anything out of him, who could. Yet don't feel bad for VG, if he was smart with his monies, he should be set for life because of this poor choice by the Jets.
Sorry he is not the biggest NFL bust. Try JaMarcus Russell or that head case QB SD drafted 2nd. There have so many NYJ bust like Johnny Lam Jones it is very hard even to place VG as the #1 ever NYJ bust :jets:
Jets have had three consecutive winning seasons since Gholston joined the team. Has any other first rounder in Jets history been able to claim that since they joined?
The four guys we drafted in 2000--Shaun Ellis, John Abraham, Chad Pennington and Anthony Becht. We had winning seasons in their first three years (2000-02), including two playoff appearances and a division title. On top of that, all contributed to some or all of that a lot more than Gholston did in 2008-10.
Russell and Leaf are bigger busts than Gholston or Bey, or Archuletta for that matter. However, I think the article is specifically looking at guys who were overdrafted because of their combine workouts.
