Yeah, that's how I rated them originally... in groups. Brady and Manning easily at the top. I think you could have swapped these two guys and things probably would have panned out about the same for them. Just Manning would have been the guy with the bigger ring collection.
I think Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Manning, and Rivers are more or less all on the same level. They vary in their mobility but they all share one important characteristic - they are elite decision-making QBs. They can read defenses, call audibles, and go through progressions to produce the optimal play better than anyone else in the league. It's one thing that Sanchez cannot do yet and stands as the biggest factor keeping the Jets from winning a Super Bowl.
Brady is the second best QB in the league, as Manning is still #1. Manning is a throw back who calls his own plays. No one does that anymore. He's literally the prototype of the term franchise QB. Past them, i feel Rodgers has joined Brees in that next level of special QB's who can win games on their backs.

Those are team stats. They don't mean anything. Aaron Rodgers' 2010 passer rating (regular + postseason): 103.1 Matt Ryan's 2010 passer rating (regular + postseason): 89.9 Huge difference.
Judging by all these responses, I think its clear to say there is no clear #5 QB in the NFL right now. 1. Manning 2. Brady 3. Brees 4. Rodgers are mostly everyone's Top 4 in some order but the #5 is always different. I hope Sanchez can jump to that #5 spot next year.
I was not comparing the two QB's passer ratings. I was responding to BTQ's thread about Rodgers being so clutch. Clutch meaning times a quarterback takes the field late in the fourth quarter facing a deficit of between 1 and 7 points and winning the game. Rodgers record in games decided by 0-7 points is only 9-15. That's not clutch. BTW, Cowherd is on the money about Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan's stats: 31 starts, 8 fourth quarter comebacks, 13 game-winning drives And record in games decided by 0-7 points: 16-5.
Shouldn't he be penalized for calling the wrong the plays or not executing the plays he calls in january?
I have seen some pretty good arguments here but I must say that putting Rodgers 2nd is still a mistake, IMO Brady is 1st, Peyton is 2nd, Brees is 3rd, Ben 4th and Rodgers 5th. The run that Brady and Manning have had is amazing, and nobody has beaten the top teams on a more consistent basis than Brady and Bill. Truth be told without the turnovers the Packers do not win the SB, it took a lot of things going their way to even win a close game, I'm not discrediting their win but let him do this for 3 or 4 years and then we can put him in the second spot, for now he is 5th in my rankings.
Don't really believe what? that he has struggled most of his career in big games? Yes I know that is the case. It's funny how he gets so much credit for changing plays at the line then when those plays don't work the blmes is on the OL, RBs, WRs, etc... Does Peyton every do anything wrong?
I agree he struggled most of his career in the playoffs. But he plays so well in the regular season, does it really make sense to change the way he plays (calling his own plays) in the postseason?
I was't saying he should change his ways but he was being complimented for calling plays, my point was why isn't he attacked for calling the wrong plays since he and that offense has struggled in most postseason games.
I never actually said 'clutch'. What i said was winning games largely based on the QB play. The QB's that currently make the most difference in my opinion are Manning, Brady, Brees, and Rodgers. I also feel that Rivers stepped up quite a bit last year, and will likely get even better. Ben still somewhere in that conversation too. Guys like Ryan are on their way, and could potentially take another big step next year. A post season win or two would go a long way for him.
No worries. Just realized i left Vick off that last post. Another good year in terms of passer rating, and moving the chains whether rushing or passing, would certainly put him right in the mix too.
