Didn't see it posted elsewhere, apologies if it's buried on another thread. Smith is planning to appeal, which is quite right given it was an iffy penalty to start with.
what about Farrior's helmet-to-helmet on the Shonnmower?!! I still can't believe a flag wasn't thrown on that hit....but the league should still fine Farrior, imo.
That was beyond obvious and that no call pissed me off. I would think that Sanchez has enough respect as a playoff QB by now that the refs would give him that call, because if it were Manning or Brady they are getting the yellow hankie
Bullfuckingshit, what about the fucking Farrior hit on Greene? Or the blatant late hit on Sanchez? This bullshit is tiering.
I'm pretty sure you can tackle a running back like that and it's not a penalty. The rule is about protecting defensive less receivers and quarterbacks. You can hit a running back or a ball carrier with a helmet to helmet hit and it's not a penalty.
Correct. Smith got flagged under the defenseless reciever rule, Greene was fair game. The hit on Sanchez however was blatant and should get a fine.
Anyone have a video of the smith hit? I remember it being not THAT bad and definitely not fine worthy. The harrison hit on sanchez was complete bullshit and deserved a penalty, but it wasn't a hard hit and doesn't deserve a fine.
its funny jets fans dont even know the rules. i have seen many of you complain about this, there is no penalty for helmet to helmet on running plays.
Bu Bu But! Scoffaveli3 posted in another thread that Nazi Fuhrer HERR Goodell is rumored to 'favor' the Jets. What a joke. PS: Mantana Soss is not funny, but he IS a joke.
Half right. Yes to the first bit, a ball carrier can be tackled and helmet-to-helmet contact will be tolerated as the ball carrier is deemed to be in control and not defenceless. If the player does not have control or is deemed to be defenceless, (EG; not facing the hit) then it CAN be flagged by the officials, its a judgement call. Also I believe that the Helmet cannot be the first point of contact in making a tackle , see spearing rule.
No way thats a flag if we're talking about the same play. Sanchez slides to the ground and Harrison kind of falls onto him ??? Yes he could have prevented contact, but if was hardly a 'hit'. That said, touch a kicker/punter and you face the firing squad. Goodells NFL = Broken
It's absolutely a flag, Sanchez was sliding feet first which is the QB stating that he's electing to rule himself down. Harrison had plenty of time to stop but chose to make an intimidatory and unnecessary hit on the defenceless QB. Penalties are not assessed for how hard the hit was, they're assessed for timing and legality and that failed on both counts. It's a 15 yard penalty all day long.
IF he was the first player to make the hit. But it came down to a judgement call, once again. I saw that hit as 50-50 which is what I'm guessing the officials saw. Thats said, Smiths was also 50-50 and that was called.
If the calls are made based on who the player or the team is then the NFL is a joke. What happened to the rules? Two sets of rules for different players and different teams. Nice. Do they still want me to follow the game? It's obvious the refs had it in for the Jets all year. How many games did we see the Jets getting BS calls against them or not getting legitimate calls in their favor. This is why I think the Jets will never win the SB. It's almost impossible to overcome every obstacle including the refs. Didn't the refs cost the Jets two or three TDs against the Steelers?
