Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has defended offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's play calling in the AFC Championship Game against the Steelers.

Sanchez said it was the fault of the players that the Jets failed to score on four plays inside Pittsburgh's 3-yard line midway through the fourth quarter.

"I would never criticize Schotty for the play calls," Sanchez said.

"We need to execute the plays; they're designed to score. We're on the 2-yard line. Whatever it takes, you've got to get in the end zone. And that's unfortunate that we didn't."

Now a good portion of the board is actually going to think Sanchez is a dick.

A SCREEN to LT on the goal line? You do know that screen passes require about 15 yards of space for the blocks to be executed, right? And you do know that one of Sanchez' most glaring weaknesses is executing screen plays, right?

I shouldn't assume you do, since you actually think that Keller has bad hands. Go ahead and call for everyone's head. You wouldn't be the first ignorant poster on this board to get loud.

I was expecting them to try the Sanchez bootleg that they used in Week 15 but send Hartsock out to block and give him the option to throw.

Regardless of Hunters stance. When you run a quick slant the tackle has to go low at the outside guy to force him down, so you can't knock the ball down at the line. Watching the replay's it was as if Hunter didn't know what the play was. There is a good replay from behind Woodley. Hunter's face says it all, he looks lost.

I want to make it clear, I'm not defending the slant call. The call was completely retarded. They needed to run the ball, but if you pass throw the fade to Edwards.

Schottenheimer is outsmarted because the right tackle lined up in a 2 point stance? Schottenheimer got outsmarted because LT didn't make it to the hole in time? How the hell does that make sense? You don;t have a goddamn clue what you're talking about. Man, you're a football guru bud.

By the way, if I haven't already made clear that the guys who write about football know nothing about it, this article basically gives it away. Wentzel and the guy from PFT have to watch NFL Playbook to get the material for an article about football, which it is their job to cover? If not for that show, I guarantee you could show the game 5 times from all angles to thefootball writers who haven't coached or played and 90% of them would miss these details. These guys are losers, they've never been there....but we're supposed to respect their opinion. If they knew anything, they'd be in the game. That's what they want and a lot of them have convinced themselves that by being sports writers, they're in it. but they're not,a nd that's how the joke is on them. They need to know their place, just like concussion80.

At this point, my hope is that Sanchez progresses enough next year to regularly check out of retarded play calls.

I just re-watched the 3rd down play. As someone said here, Brandon Moore tries three times before the snap to clue Sanchez to something that he sees.

Sanchez, trying not to tip off where the ball is going I guess, never looks to his right while under center. He only snaps his head to the right as he's about to let the ball go...too late to notice Woodley in the lane.

After the play, Moore immediately gets in Sanchez's face to express something.
It'd be interesting to know what Moore was saying before and after the snap.

Please see 2:31 and explain to me why you dont think the Jets could have done that again. Maybe what I meant to say was a dumpoff, and not a screen, but the point was that the ball could have gone to LT there.

And, I am calling for Keller's head because he sucks. Just like Schotty. Just like Jason Taylor. And just like Nick Folk. Those 4 guys should not be anywhere near this team next year. Plain and simple. Keller cant catch. Schotty cant coach. Taylor cant get to the Qb anymore. And well, do I even have to go into why Folk needs to be gone, or do you think he is a legendary kicker? Well, I shouldn't assume you know why he should be gone, so I will explain - he cant kick the ball to the goal line, and is shaky at making field goals.

    I find you sad.

You're trying to tell us you want a swing pass at the goal line. Now that I've gotten that out for you I'm sorry to inform you that's a horrid idea.

Keller doesn't suck. I don't know what your criteria is for sucking. I choose Jeremy Stevens. That's someone who sucks.

Taylor did what he was brought in to do. You weren't going to get any more production out of a 34 year old than what the Jets got. Its foolish to think he was going to do any better.

Folk is a JAG of a kicker, but there aren't many options that will be any better. I don't know why the fuck you'd use the word legendary for anything.

Schotty is a damn good coach. Its his playcalling that is a different story. He has to learn what to do in the redzone and needs to manage the offense better during the end of the halves and the start of the game. He knows football, its his decision making on Sundays that aren't top shelf.

What else can I help you with?

I think they'll start giving him that power next season.

He got that power for the playcall at Indy to Braylon to set up Folk's kick.

I hope he will begin to check out of plays and take what the defense gives him. In hindsight - a QB sneak would have worked with ease on that 2nd down pass to Holmes. The defense was standing up.

Never really think about him being able to audible but that will be huge next year. Playcalling is an inexact science and if the defense comes out in a look that a play is obviously going to fail against it will be great to have Sanchez be able to check to a play that will actually work.

Your point about saving time on the clock might have some validity if Shotty didn't just burn 8 minutes off the clock to drive 50 yards where the offensive showed absolutely no urgency and ran the play clock close to 0 every play.

it was shitty playcalling and shitty xecution. we have seen this situation b4 and we have seen the same shitty playcalling and shitty xecution b4. its not a new thing w/schotty. you run the fkng ball and if turner is too stupid to be in the correct stance he shud b cut immediately.
