I know it is completely implausible, but my hope is that the Jets sign Asomugha to put opposite of Revis, keep Wilson in the slot, and move Cromartie to a hybrid FS position like Lowery had been playing.

They've already made a hefty investment in Cromartie with the draft pick, so in that regard it would make sense to try and retain him. He is excellent with his ball skills and he can cover a lot of ground quickly. His athleticism makes him perfect for the ball hawking coverage safety role.

We all know he isn't very physical, but the traditional coverage FS doesn't really have to be all that physical. And honestly, Cromartie impressed me this season with his willingness to get his nose in the pile. It didn't happen a lot, but he didn't ALWAYS shy from contact. I think he'd fit in perfectly there as a centerfielder and we can use him on kick offs if Brad Smith walks. It fills our need for a play making safety without having to spend a ton on free agency. Of course this is all a pipe dream because I doubt Cromartie would be willing to conceed that he is the 3rd best CB on the team and switch positions when he could land a big pay day from another CB-needy team. And I doubt the team would invest that much money in four defensive backs. Either way, bring on the Asomugha.

Fuhgeddaboutit.....I want Holmes and Edwards back...you get Asomugha, then top-QB's will just throw underneath ALL THE TIME if we develop no pass rush.

Bring back the WR's and get a pass rush, we can't spend $25 MM on corners.

Pretty much. Elite CB's aren't going to tame the Pats TE attack. You need good coverage linebackers and good pass rush (which was present during the playoff game).

The difference between Aso and Cros salaries? I would say about $6mil. The difference between their talent? No comparison. So we are looking at bringing in Aso at the expense of Cro, and another overpriced FA. Not the worst situation to be in. I would love this to happen.

Nothing ironic about this thread. I want Asomugha on the Jets, and I believe Nmandi, Rex & Tanny do too.

    Get it done...

If ibabuzz.com says we're the most likely, then I guess it is realistic after all.

Hypothetical: If the cost of signing Nnamdi meant the Jets couldn't resign Brad Smith (and Cro of course) would you do it?

    For me, it's a yes.

I'm going to say it again....I wouldn't put anything past Tanny...whether you guys think it's realistic or not.

The bottom line....this regime is hell-bent on winning ASAP....you couple that with the fact Rex has a hard-on for shutdown corners.....and the Jets could very well end up with Aso in a green/white uniform next season.

I know there's financial implications.....there always are......but again, Tanny finds ways around those types of obstacles.

This could be a fun offseason.

It's going to mean not resigning a whole lot more than that. A better question would be:

If it means losing Edwards and Harris, would you do it?

I must have played that song 300 times since the Pats win. I couldn't listen to it anymore after Sunday.

I'm not even gonna speculate on whether Aso comes here or not, but at this point....wouldn't Cro command almost as much in salary as Aso? Not to mention the fact, the money Aso made in Oak-town, and the fact he wants to play opposite Revis and for Rex, maybe he takes a little less. Cro, otoh, needs every fucking penny in salary, and I'm pretty sure everyone knows why.
    Just saying.
With 2 corners like Revis and Aso, the biggest question would be...could Gholston actually get a sack?
