Bart Scott disrupted plays numerous times in the backfield. The result? 1. Missed Tackles 2. Holding Penalties not called 3. Mendenhall dancing around looking at a 2 yard loss and turning it into a 10 yard gain b/c our linemans feet are too slow to fucking catch him. They are all upper body and no speed. Bart Scott is fine on this team, not overrated. It's not like Eric Barton is better then him.
With so many free agents wanting to get paid, the Defense could be in line for a major overhaul. I hope we focus on D in the draft. No disrespect to Mike DeVito, but the 3-4 just isn't the same without a bad-ass NT who draws consistent double-teams like Wilfork, Kris Jenkins (have no confidence in him coming back), or Haloti Ngata.
DeVito is a DE who should be a part of our rotation for years..... Pouha is our NT and a damn good one. We could use depth across the board along the DL. I think Pitoitua coming back will make a difference too.
I just wish he kept his containment on that last play. B. Scott biting on the hand off is what allowed the rapist to get out of the pocket
I pretty much view "good" as above league average......"great" as well above league average but short of being the best at the position, and "elite" as the best at that position, in the NFL at that time. In other words, I think we both probably view him similarly, just use different words to describe it..... I think Harris is amongst the best 10 at the position (easily).....but short of being as good as the truly elite.
I agree with that. Granted, our LBs didn't play well yesterday. Truth be told, they couldn't catch a cold yesterday. But bashing our LBs today beyond yesterday's first half implosion and questioning their overall skill is total bullshit. The reason we were the top (or right near the top) relative to run defense 2 years in a row had a HELLUVA lot more to do with our LBs than it did our defensive line. Free agency will dictate this more than anything, I think, but I would love to see Pace, Scott, and, of course, Harris still in a Jets' uniform next year.
Mike DeVito isn't our nose tackle. Sione Pouha was our nose tackle and he had a hell of a season. ...Haloti Ngata isn't a nose tackle either. I'm not surprised that you don't know what you're talking about though.
The D looked like cheese in the 1st half, of the swiss variety. They played much better in the 2nd half. The 2nd half is how I expected the whole game to play out, unfortunately it didn't.
huge fan of Scott's, as is Rex. I think he brings alot to the team in drive and especially in talking it up. Just ordered myself another B. Scott jersey.
Scott is definitely overpaid but I wouldn't say he's overrated. I don't think many people consider him a defensive star and that isn't what is expected of him. Sad irony that he and the rest of the front 7 couldn't stop a nose bleed yesterday though. I think he was referring to Pace as not being able to rush the passer. At least Pace has a lingering injury as an excuse though.. Bryan Thomas is just a bum.
Agreed. Funny thing is, we have a Ngata thread on here. Would have been a lot easier to sign him if Baltimore had been the team to overpay Scott in 2009. We wouldn't have been the same team for the last two years, though.
He is good against the run not so much in coverage. If u watch him he is usually blowing up the FB on most runs. He's making more than he should but he seems to be a good guy to get the D going. God knows he does world class interviews!
Bart Scott is overpaid but for what everyone(with any football acumen) expects him to do he fits the role perfectly.
I've been thinking that a lot lately, especially after his post game tirade. there certainly was a first half nosebleed that his boys couldn't stop Sunday night. I think our LB'ers played much better LAST year.
