You know, I really don't think there's a precedent for Gholston's awfulness. Even the worst pass rushers who fall out of the league in a couple of years usually had 1 or 2 sacks as a professional. The fact that he has none is incredible. I think he might have a chance in a 4-3, but I don't know. You'd think if he were any good, he'd have gotten at least one sack. No sacks is incredibly poor. -X-
I did some research on that...pretty amazing stuff http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=62990
This is actually a really interesting debate..... D-Slob atleast had some production and stayed on the field. He also cost us more in the long run, and the fact that management knew about his knee condition prior to the pick makes it even worse. At the same time, Ghost couldn't even make the active roster at various points in every season..... It's a coin flip really, a frustrating and pathetic coin flip.
Vernon Gholston is so bad that his best play in 3 years came in the pre-season, and resulted in a 15 yard personal foul. What a cunt.
And it's not even limited to those two. Throw in Blair Thomas (passing on Emmitt Smith, Cortez Kennedy, Junior Seau), Johnny Lam Jones (Anthony Munoz, Art Monk) Jeff Lageman and Johnny Mitchell. The only reason why I stopped naming who we passed on is because I got to Roger Vick and saw that he was taken over Christian Okoye and I just had enough. I am so glad I was born in 1987 and by and large missed those days. I guess I did see the culmination of it with Carroll and Kotite. EDIT: If someone actually wanted to make a poll as to the worst Jets draft blunder it could literally go 10 deep. What the fuck happened!!
It's the offseason, new guy. You need to get used to seeing this type of stuff on the board, otherwise it's going to be a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time until the draft, and an even longer time until training camp.
Those drafts were painful. I remember every year looking forward to the draft & believing the Jets were finally going to turn it around w/ stud draft picks then the realization that Jets dropped the ball again. Another reason why I'll always be grateful for Parcells. He basically turned this franchise around.
i'm not gonna get all personal...but can you imagine how good the jets 'd' would have been had ghost actually lived up to his draft position and salary?
If Vernon Gholston wasn't so awful, the Jets could've won the Green Bay game by a score of 0-0*. * is for ass kicking. Does he deserve a thread this long? Probably not. Is it a fun way to vent the frustrations of last weekends game, I think so.
but thats assuming we don't make the trade and pick a stud twice, we could still swing and miss w/those picks...Dslob was at least serviceable...gholston hasn't done a thing since being here.
