why BSPN is giving Roethlisberger all kinds of credit for the win yesterday just because he got 2 first downs at the end when he played like shit the whole game. His passer rating for the game was 35 and he threw 2 picks. Steelers definitely won that game in spite of him, not because of him. Mendenhall and the defense deserve all the credit. All Roethlisberger did was not play badly enough to lose. Reminds me of the AFC Championship a few years back when Brady threw 3 picks against San Diego but he was "clutch" because they won, when the weekend before Peyton Manning threw 3 TDs and only 1 INT against them but he was a dog. Total double standard. I think it's easy to lose sight of the fact that football is a team sport. I think using team wins and losses as a statistic for evaluating QBs is as useless as it is for starting pitchers in baseball.
Maybe you should go back and watch the game again. Count how many times Roethlisberger killed you with his feet. The guy just wins and has a 10-2 playoff record so who cares about stats? We can leave that for Manning and Brady.
Yes his plays with his feet did somewhat make up for the 2 picks, but he still threw 2 picks and zero TDs, and zero scoring drives in the 2nd half. Had he played just an average game the Jets have no opportunity to make it close. When evaluating a PLAYER, individual stats are much more important than rings or wins, which are TEAM stats. If rings and wins are all that counts then by that logic Trent Dilfer was a better QB than Dan Marino. I dunno about you but I know who I'd want on my team....
Your forgetting the defense gets paid as well. Whatever Rex said to his team at halftime worked. The run wasn't as effective and neither was the pass. Personally, as a Steeler fan I am glad we build a 24-0 lead. I am also glad that we played to win on the last series and put the ball in Roethlisberger's hands. I can tell you with the momentum the Jets built in the 2nd half it would have made for a very interesting ending. I could have seen Holmes catching the game winner with no time left. Ouch!
I bet if you asked Dan Marino if he would switch places with Dilfer the answer would be yes. The only people that get enamored with stats are fantasy players and mediots. The players care about rings.
Mendenhall and the defense deserve about 95% of the credit for winning that game for you guys. Seemed like every time Mendenhall touched the ball he would nearly get tackled for a loss but then gobble up 8+ yards. The Superbowl will be interesting. I'm curious to see what Aaron Rodgers can do against your defense.
Me too. I was worried about the Packers but then watched the 2nd half of the Bears game and they didn't do crap either so I think it may come down to the last series for either team.
who gives a shit about stats. look at sanchez. his stats arent pretty, but he did what he had to do to win during the reg season.
I understand your point, but I do not believe Marino would trade places with Dilfer. Marino is a Hall of Famer. That is the highest honor a football player can receive. There is money to be made with it, too, in memoribilia and endorsements. Dilfer can actually talk well. Marino cannot. Marino would not be working for CBS if he had Dilfer's career.
He deserves praise IMO. He killed the Jets multiple times with his feet by running for first downs and made two huge throws to clinch the win, something Manning didn't do on the Blair White play at the end of that game.
I know what you're getting at, but I seriously doubt Marino would trade his career for Dilfer's to get a ring.
Uh.. two times? Maybe three? When our defense parted for him, he took advantage of it. That doesn't quite overcome the fact that he played like dogshit most of the game. And the "he just wins" line doesn't go very far when he has the best defense in the league to back him up. Edit: second best (statistically)
lol Marino would not trade his career for Dilfer's. Maybe he'd trade it with Big Ben or Eli Manning but not Dilfer. As for the credit Big Ben gets...it's because he won the game. Flacco is regarded as a pretty good playoff QB isn't he? Look up his playoff numbers, they're atrocious. ATROCIOUS
Bitch about Big Ben and his play all day.. he's still going to Dallas to play for a third ring. Sounds a little like sour grapes.
Just like Tiger Woods will be a "changed man" the second he wins a Tourney of any kind of importance. He's "still trying to find his way."
Yeah I'm getting tired of the "he just wins" line too. Mendenhall didn't get nearly enough credit for that victory.
