10. 1982 AFC Round 2 vs. Los Angeles Raiders 9. 1972 wk 2 vs. Baltimore Colts 8. 2002 wk 17 vs. Green Bay Packers 7. 1998 AFC Divisional vs Jacksonville Jaguars 6. 2002 AFC Wildcard vs. Indianapolis Colts 5. 2009 AFC Divisional vs. San Diego Chargers 4. Monday Night Miracle vs. Miami Dolphins 3. 2010 AFC Divisional vs. New England Patriots 2. 1968 AFL Championship vs. Oakland Raiders 1. Super Bowl III vs Baltimore Colts
This topic is much better And I pretty much agree with Murrell2878's list ... I think our first upset of the Chargers (I believe it was 2004) belongs on the list though, that was a GREAT game
I wasn't alive for #1, #2, or #9 and didn't know what the fuck a football was in '82. Great list though. My list from personal experience would be... 7. 2002 wk 17 vs. Green Bay Packers 6. 2004 AFC Wildcard vs San Diego Chargers (added thanks to 101) 5. 2009 AFC Divisional vs. San Diego Chargers 4. Monday Night Miracle vs. Miami Dolphins 3. 2002 AFC Wildcard vs. Indianapolis Colts (Attended!) 2. 1998 AFC Divisional vs Jacksonville Jaguars 1. 2010 AFC Divisional vs. New England Patriots
pretty much had to win that game twice but last year was the division round and got us to the afc championship game where 2004 was only a wildcard game
Oh yeah no doubt, I honestly loved that Jets Chargers game the first one, very entertaining, and well ... we all know what happen the next round but it was a very entertaining game to watch and I think it was a signature win no matter what happen that next game I have the game recorded so I never get sick of watching it when I have time
Good list by the OP. I would add the following in no particular order: 2002 - Week 9 @ San Diego - We were 3-5 going against the team with the best record in the NFL. We destroyed them and the Chad era was officially on. 2004 - Wild Card @ San Diego - An all around exciting game. The past 2 years have made this game less significant, but at the time it was a great win. 2009 - Week 2 New England - This was THE statement game in the next chapter of Jets history.
i was only 4 years old when they won the bowl, my family was jumping around and screaming, so i knew that soemthing good was going on, but i wasn;t really dialed in yet. that being said, the win over the raiders in '82 was great, the win over the jags in '98 was awesome too, that was a tough jacksonville team that nobody wanted to play at the time in that round 2 playoff home game. i moved to southern cal in '89, so the two wins over the chargers out here were extra sweet for me, i loved tormenting co-workers, neighbors, and the tons of bandwagoners who jumped aboard the chargers out here. last year was great, but these last two wins over the colts and patriots this year still have me on cloud 9. call me silly, but i embrace this recent jets success, yeah sunday was tough, but there's a lot to look forward to.
I loved last year's game against Cincy in the regular season. Sure, they rested their starters, but 37-0, with so many big plays, and to secure a playoff spot in the last game ever in the old Giants Stadium, with that awesome halftime celebration was a rush.
Since 1998, in my case: 1) 2010 Playoffs @NE 2) 2002 Playoffs vsIND 3) 2009 Playoffs @SD 4) Monday Night Miracle vsMIA 5) 2006 reg season @NE
Decent list but I would move # 10 up the list to #5, put #7 as #4 and find a spot for the 2004 San Diego playoff game. Probably find a spot for the Cincinnati win in 1982-83, first playoff win since Super Bowl III, 14 years later. As great as the Monday Night Miracle was we didn't even make the playoffs that year. You can make a better case for the 51-45 OT game in 1986, we at least made it that year.
it really doesn't matter what's on the list and what isn't. I'm so sick of reading self pity threads. We've had many big wins and it's time to start celebrating them not crying about the losses.
Im gonna give added bias to games I actually attended, and for me personally last yr's divisional win was bigger because we actually dominated most of the game this year, wasnt in much question for the entire 2nd half. Also, not including the win vs Jacksonville, although we were the favorites, is silly. 1. 2002 Week 17 vs GB including video switching to Vinatieri's 2 FG to clinch the division 2. 2009 Divisional vs Chargers 3. 2010 Divisional vs Pats 4. 2010 Week 17 vs Bengals 5. John Hall 53 yd FG to win vs Oakland (2003?) 6. 2011 WC vs Indy 7. 2010 Week 2 vs Pats 8. (I was too young to stay up to watch Monday night miracle, but ill include it anyway) 9. 2002 41-0 vs Indy in WC 10. 2008 Thurs night vs Pats (although season ended poorly, this game was insane)
1988 - Giants knocked out of the playoffs by the Jets on the last day of the season. That was very satisfying. 1991 - Jets beat Dolphins on last day of the season to make the playoffs and keeping the Dolphins at home. Fuck you Shula!
As said, I would definitely find room for the 51-45 game on my list, even though the 45-3 Monday Night game later that season against Miami took some of the shine off it.* Not for a Greatest list - but - the Jets' pre-season win over the Giants in 1969, after SBIII was a biggie back in the day.* I agree with the Jets' last minute victory over the Giants on the last day of the 1988 season.* It gave the Jets a winning season, and knocked our landlords out of the playoffs. If we were making a longer list, I'd have to include a bunch of the exciting games from the 2010 season. This season as a whole is right up the with 68, 86, and 98.
4. 1972 wk 2 vs. Baltimore Colts 3. 2010 AFC Divisional vs. New England Patriots 2. 1968 AFL Championship vs. Oakland Raiders 1. Super Bowl III vs Baltimore Colts
Also enjoyed Bronco game in '78 when Matt Robinson hit Wesley Walker with the 85 yd TD to complete the comeback from 28-7...
