The two teams basically have an almost identical schedule next year.

    Common opponents
    Kansas City(both at home)
    San Diego(both at home)
    Dallas(both at home)
    Denver(both on the road)
    Oakland(both on the road)
    Philly(both on the road)
    Washington(both on the road)

The only differences on the schedules is that the Jets play Jacksonville at home while the Pats have Indy while the Jets go to Baltimore and the Pats go to Pittsburgh.

I would tend to disagree with you. The Pats have had trouble in the the playoffs with home field advantage. If you take away the first half of the Steelers game, you'd be in the SB. And the Jets have shown that they don't have trouble winning on the road.

maybe not 14-2 but i expect them to be VERY good next year. They are very young on both sides of the ball and have a boatload of draftpicks. They are only going to get better. If we are expecting the pats to get worse were in trouble

Wrong. We didn't get lucky. We just play the 2nd seed teams from AFC North and AFC South, not cuz we got lucky, but cuz we were the 2nd seed from our division. Pats were the 1st seed so they have to play the 1st seed in AFC North, and AFC South.

It seems pretty unlikely. They could be better then this year and have a worse record. That's very possible. But all the Patriots have to do is be one game better then the Jets, right? I can't predict their actual win-loss record, I'm seeing a dogfight between the Jets and Pats. Clearly the team that sweeps the series would have a huge advantage but a split would not be improbable at all. In fact that still might be the likest scenario. So it might come down to the rest of the schedule again.

Patriots fans just went through this ourselves. A devastating loss and then a regrouping and an analysis of what the Patriots need. Many of their needs are similar to the Jets. Some very studly pass rushers, more depth in defensive front seven, perhaps a top-flight receiver or running back and of course, more and better offensive linemen. Like the Jets the core of the team is in pretty good shape. This defense has the potential to get better.

Maybe the Patriots will collapse but they didn't like how the season ended either and will motivated to not let that happen again.

    Should be an interesting year.

I'm less than concerned about a team that can't win playoff games anymore.

The Patriots aren't going anywhere and with their draft picks will only improve!

    Okay, thanks.

Recent history seems to disagree, though.

what if we sweep the patriots, but lose 14 other games, and the patriots lose 13 games total?

    Thread fail

Worry about the Jets and what they do, not the Pats. I know Rex was just being himself on the presser about looking for other teams to do damage to the Pats but you can't count on that. The Jets need to beat the good teams too.
