I joined this board the day after the doug brien debacle because i needed a place to vent. today I had dreams of drunk posting on this forum about how things had come full circle and I was now celebrating a playoff win in pitt. sadly, I feel like im back to square one. also -Anybody else buy superbowl tickets and feel like a jackass? I tried to trick myself into believing it would happen. goddamn being a jets fan sucks
Yep. I feel like we have to wait forever just for the privilege of starting over from square one. Totally empty feeling right now. Maybe in a couple days I'll see the silver lining but not now.
Look, I know the loss is still fresh but only one team gets to win it all. At least we know we'll be good next year and will have a shot. We just gotta make the tourney and everything else is game. Let's keep our heads up. The Jets are an elite team.
Why? Free agency/potential injuries? How do you "know we'll be good"? I thought that in '99 and our season went in the shitter with Vinny getting hurt in the first game. How do you know? Based on what?
Based on what? What are you looking for some proof? You really think the jets aren't gonna be good? Is our whole team leaving!? No...is Rex gonna have these guys competitive again..!??! Yea. You doubt that? Dude, we lost get over it. Don't ruin your life over it. I've been a true Jet fan just like everyone else & I'm remaining optimistic. Players come and go, injuries happen...all part of the game. I think the Jets have answered those kinds of questions the last few years already. There's your proof.
You just answered your own question as to why the Jets might not be as good next year. Face it, there will be a lot of changes in the offseason because the Jets have too many Free Agents to sign them all. They really, desperately need to hit some Home Runs in this year's draft because as usual, they are starved for picks due to trades. I would like to see them focus on this as well as landing some low-priced role players for depth through the Free Agent market. And one more thing -there may not even be a season next year!
How many chances does this team get to break through? They went 11-5 which was great but not good enough. Slow starts in nearly every game, always having to play from behind - no 1st qtr touchdowns for what 13 weeks now? -they won some games late - Denver, Huston, Detroit, Cleveland - just shows how close they were to 7-9. They need to go out and win 12 games, take the AFC East, get a bye, and home field. 10 straight road playoff games is a joke. If this team ever wants to be in the big game they need to play better during the regular season. In 99 it was a forgone conclusion the Jets would be in the SuperBowl and that season ended in 15 minutes, during the Chad years we always had next year only to see a rotator cuff or hand injury derail the season. In this league with free agency, salary caps, etc..you only get so many tries and this team was built to win now. I just hope they can make things work with key free agents given the unstable CBA. The organization has taken a positive turn so a step back next season would be awful. After 30 years of bleeding green I don't know I could take another let down like this.
Welcome to the off season. I am not yet in full off season mode. Might take a few days, even weeks. But in general you are correct. Tanny will have to have an excellent draft, I think. We can't count on a great bunch of free agents coming in, and some who came for this past year will not be here or did not quite perform as well as hoped, and therefore should probably go. Picks like Gholston and Wilson hurt the effort, for sure. I give Tanny lots of credit for some things, but he can hardly claim to be consistently effective wit his higher picks. And don't forget NE has a bunch of high picks. So yeah, anyone who just assumes the Jets will be as good next year is being over optimistic. The Jet FO has a lot of work to do this off season, and past results have been mostly good, but not beyond criticism.
In 99, we lost Vinny in the first game it all crashed down, sure. Vinny was old though, that year effectively was the end of him. After that it was crappy coach after crappy coach. We now have a young QB, a pretty young team, and Rex is here for the long haul. I think the future is bright.
No I didn't. You didn't read the end. The last 3 years we've had good teams. We've dealt with free agency already...injuries already....coaching changes already....we overcome it & made the afc championship game twice in a row & are getting better. There's your proof. So yes, I'm not going overboard about this loss & having great hope for the future.
