Life must be hard for you. Thinking about New Yorkers who would have to buy a ticket, a plane ticket and an over priced hotel room. You would have it easier.
I was thinking this exact thing. I remember 17a saying its a great time but was still a mistake. Yes the ticket prices will go down ALOT if the Jets do not make it. I REALLY want to go to Dallas if the Jets win but I highly doubt that I will be able to find someone else to go with. That's my biggest problem. I don't even care about spending $4000 for a 1 day event. I wasn't even alive for SBIII so I would go in a heartbeat. That being said - I am not risking buying tickets God-Forbid the Jets don't make it. I guess I will just stay home.
Why in my mind do I believe it would be rather easy to sell them if you were to purchase and the Jets don't make it? There are plenty of people out there that would buy your tickets, regardless of teams/seats.
What's the site that had like a stock market version of buying tickets? You backed a certain team I think and then could buy or sell from other fans? I can't remember the specifics, but there was another possibly cheaper alternative.
Pittsburgh and Green Bay have national followings though, they may not be as big a market as NY obviously but they have more of a following around the country than the Saints or Colts did last year. I'm no expert on ticket selling but I believe prices will be higher this year than last year no matter the matchup. Especially with the appeal of the new stadium in Dallas.

Sounds like the risk is about $1000 per ticket buying now based on the above posts. I'm thinking you would do better to place a $2000 (2 tix) bet on the jets to win. Then if they lose you are out the same 2K. If they win you have an extra 2K to spend on tix. I think whoever said Jets making it is baked into the price is only partially correct, if you look at historical sales on ebay, before we laid the hurt on NE prices were ~1700 a ticket now they are ~2300 a ticket. If its an efficient market, then the cost of tickets if the Jets win is projected at ~2900 a ticket (assumes the market though Jets had 0% chance as of Jan 15th, and now have a 50% chance. i.e. there is a $1200 premium on Jets tickets). This assumes that none of the other teams in the race have a significant premium, which is not true. I don't think however its an efficient market and I think prices if the Jets win will be closer to 4000 a ticket.
You're crazy if you think Steelers/Packers is the loser scenario....that is far and away the most lucrative situation for people selling tickets. Those two teams are among the largest 4 or 5 fan bases in the NFL. You'll have people coming from overseas to watch those teams. You won't get that sort of demand for the Jets...at least not to the same degree. The Steelers travel as well as any team in the NFL. They're like the Cowboys.
Those were the tickets Francesa was mocking and rightly so. So people are gonna spend money on airfare, hotels and another $200 just to watch the game on TV?
This is being talked about in the super bowl thread as mentioned. It all comes down to supply and demand. People who want to buy now are looking at it from the demand point of view. Once teams are finalized the demand will be there from their fan base. What makes it worse is we are the second game so bear or packer fans get first dibs.....! Not quite..... Right now there is very strained supply on ticket sites. Ticket allotments won't go out until the winners of the respective teams are final. Once those tickets begin to flood the market it will maintain or even drop current prices. I could understand the merit if you were being promised a certain seat but as of now only a certain zone. Wait it out, right now the risk is higher than betting on the Jets to win as another member mentioned.
I really don't mind getting party plaza seats. I honestly just want to be there. Where is the best, safest site to find/buy these?
Those party seats arent a bad idea. Just buy one of those and go down with $1000 in cash. If you cant get one before the game starts you will A) at least have tailgated at the superbowl and B)at least are on site for the win. That's what I would do. Once the game starts brokers need to unload any remaining unsold tickets. You could always get in a the half for $500 or something.
You also get to soak in the atmosphere leading up to gameday. There are parties and events all week. Get there a few days before and have a blast!
This... You could still buy the tickets and resell them...prices will only go up once the final 2 teams are chosen as the demand from the 2 franchises that make it will skyrocket.
From what I have noticed the past few years, tickets spike up right after the teams are announced, but start dropping the week of the game. I wouldnt buy a ticket Sunday night because you have fans from both teams trying to get tickets. Wait a week and the people who will pay any amount to get at ticket, will have already paid it. Tickets then start to creep down and you can pounce on one for a fraction of what they are going for. I bet we'll start to see $1500 tickets 3-4 days before the game.
I think if the Jets make it, the prices will be too much for the common fan. You have no idea how many people a NY bandwagon can hold, and there's lots of people in the area with money to burn and want to say they were there. I'm already in. Planned the trip a while back. I am begging for my ticket to be for a Jets game in 18 days. Good luck everybody!
stubhub charges 10% to purchase and you must wait 24 hours to resell and then pay 15% to sell tix on stubhub. so $3000 tix you pay $300 surcharge now say the jets lose then sell those $3000 tickets for a loss of say $2600 if your lucky when tickets drop and pay a 15% surchage of $390. so you spent $1090 not to go to a super bowl and the jets lost too. thta was my life last year.total misery
