I understand his reasoning because of who the opponent is and the history, and given that we're one game shy of any other game in the history of the team. Having said that, I still think the 1998 game at Denver is second to Super Bowl III because we were legit and had a big chance to win the Super Bowl if we survived that game. The same could be said for this game but all it would really do is set up the same scenario as Denver 1998.
I see your point, but what I think Ryan meant is RIGHT NOW it would be the second biggest. Fwiw even a win this week and a loss next week would knock the Pats off the top of the division. With the 12/5 game, history of the last ten years in this division, the animosity between the teams, I think it's a pretty damn big game.
This game is huge, but to be honest, I don't think Rex is setting them up to play stiff because of it, or because he's acknowledging it. The team knows what this win will mean. And to be honest, is it possible that we could play any worse than last time? I certainly hope not!! lol Technically, we are the six seed... we have nothing to lose here. We can take them. If we lose... IF... I might have to consider driving to Boston for a couple weeks as I'm already taking massive shit from everyone at the train stop. If we win... I might want to drive to Boston anyway, save someone pushes me onto the tracks when its not clear. lol
in a way he's right...... Some of the other games mentioned were just 1 game. This game has the potential to finally step out of the shadow the PATS have cast on the AFCE for the past decade. They're a good, young team, with a bunch of more draft picks on the way. The time to dethrone them is NOW! :jets:
Bigger than Denver in 99 and bigger than Indy last year? I dont think so. I hope he doesn't tell Mark how big the game is. Mark isn't a very good qb as is, if you make him think the game is important, we might be calling for Brunell after 3 straight picks to start the game.
Yeah, cause he played so bad in the AFCCG last year right? Or the 2 other playoff games that we're important. But I'm sure he really didn't think those were too important to the team.
I can see Rex's point of view here, but I'd say each of the three AFC Championship Games the Jets have been to were bigger games.
This isn't the 2d biggest game in Jets history. Thats a pretty ridiculous statement for the media etc. If it gets the fans and the players pumped up - great, but a div. playoff game is not the 2d biggest game in Jets history and Rex knows better.
It's a huge game for us but I can't consider it as "big" for us as the 1982, 1999, or 2010 AFC Championship games were.
Every game, always a good way to unwind and its nice to hear the players perspective after the game. If we knock the Pars out this weekend, this will be a huge statement for our franchise. But I have several other games I would put ahead of this particular one.
It's not a Championship game but being that its against our hated rivals , They killed us the last time we played. I Have to agree with Reximus Prime.
