subtitle: in a way that hadn't occurred to me before.

For the most part, Jet fans thinking about the offseason have focused on the Jets' attempts to keep their own. Not only the 'core four,' of whom three are now locked up, but also recent acquisitions like Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, and Antonio Cromartie. Even longest-tenured Jet Shaun Ellis, still one of the Jets' best linemen, is up for a new deal.

What hadn't occurred to me in thinking about this, is the flood of free agents that will become available at the same time as most of these players. A new CBA would almost certainly mean bringing the number of years required to hit the market back to four, so you'd have all the guys who were scheduled to become free agents this year, plus most of the guys who were scheduled to become free agents last year, hitting the market at once. Additionally, one of the items to be possibly included in a new CBA is expanded NFL rosters. This would probably only be two or three spots, but it adds to the potential for aggressive teams to bring in a lot of new players.

As PFT recently put it, "With more players available than ever, the best pro personnel departments will have a bigger advantage on their competitors than usual." The Jets have that, not to mention a team that lots of players want to be a part of, a head coach who's incredibly popular among the players, and with the salary cap likely to take a bit of a jump (due partly to the roster expanding) the Jets should have at least a little bit of cash to play with, not to mention big savings from the Gholston contract.

As just an example of how much the Jets could change, if Cromartie insists on making top corner money, the Jets can talk to a list of guys that includes Champ Bailey, Carlos Rogers, and Jonathan Joseph. I left Asomugha out on purpose because I don't want this thread to turn into one of those. I'm pretty sure at least one of those other guys would love the job, and if I'm Tannenbaum, I happily take any of them. All three Baltimore safeties are free agents, not to mention Haloti Ngata, who I'm pretty sure Rex Ryan is willing to give a couple millions off the books in order to bring to the team. The Jets are in an enviable position going into an offseason that could potentially see huge changes in the NFL landscape.

First of all there won't be a lot of savings off Gholston because of the dead money they'll have to swallow.

Second of all this thread is a fucking jinx.

How's this a jinx? What am I jinxing?

Maybe there's some danger in players looking past a game and thinking about the offseason, but I'm pretty sure there isn't any consequence to fans thinking about it.

If you made this thread before the Colts game I'd say its an absurd jinx. But since we're just huge underdogs against Patriots I don't believe in any jinxes or any of that shit. If we lose it'll simply be because the Patriots are better

I'm throwing a few k's on the jets. money int he bank.

Same old jets will be in the afc championship

but it's a winning season regardless I think.

We did a lot more than what the critics expected of us.

I'd think we could all agree that under no circumstances will the Jets lose because of what some of their fans are saying on a message board.

With all the good players available, I could see the salary cap going up by a very substantial amount

1 k. but I always rep my team. and I haven't felt this strongly about a win since we beat the colts back in the day.

I would regret it if I didn't put my money where my heart is.
