Given that voters are morons who only look at stats and don't watch games (See: Revis 2009) it would take a season close to, or at par with, 2009 for Revis to achieve DPOTY honors, all while him accumulating the "sexy" stats such as INT, deflected passes, etc. On the basis of such criteria, will Revis ever win what's deservedly his?
Revis has deserved it the past two seasons and wont win it. If he wins a superbowl maybe the media will give him respect
People don't watch the games so unless u have 10 interceptions, or u are Charles Woodson, ur not winning anything.
As long as he's healthy the entire season I expect him to be in the conversation for the next 5+ years....so yes, I think he will win at least one. (hopefully)
No but he'll win superbowl mvp which I don't believe has been given to a defensive player. I could be wrong though. Sadly its about stats including picks. No one throws his direction. How bored do u think he gets honestly? Best corner ever. Yes I said it
To be fair Revis wasnt really in the conversation this year since he had his lingering injuries, his holdout, and our defense as a whole wasnt very good. I mean last year Revis was shutting down guys completely when QBs were just trying to force them the ball. This year QBs are just ignoring him since there are plenty of holes elsewhere on our defense to throw the ball. Last year he absolutely 100% deserved to WIN DPOTY, this year I honestly dont believe he even belongs in the conversation. Not to mention he got burnt more times this year than last. Moss, Harvin, Hester, all had made plays against him. And thats on top of him starting off slow and missing a few games to injury. Theres no doubt hell get his, but this aint the year
haha idk bro, i was taking a shit and couldn't really double task, my mind was elsewhere...revis is the best corner in football hands down and if he does this for another few years he'll be the best ever...i dont care about that deion sanders bs argument haha....revisssssssss!
Yes, 02 season, 03 SB. It was a "gotta give it to someone" award. Ray Lewis, Richard Dent, and Larry Brown also won off the top of my head.
^^^^^ This ^^^^^^ IF < heaven forbid > the Jets go on to win the SB, I really won't be surprised to see him wanting to restructure his contract next year and play the same game he did this year. He is a hellava player, but, IMHO, he's a $$ first kinda guy. my 2 cents ETA: as to the topic. I'm going to agree with the poster who said not unless he starts getting a bunch of INTs, Pick6's and/or TDs. Those seem to be the stats that they focus on most.
You've got a good case for last year, and while he's had a good year, he's not close to the DPOY this year.
Defensive mvp's off the top of my head, besides those already mentioned by Ignatius Randy White/Harvey Martin co-mvp Chuck Howley - only mvp from a losing team I wanna say a defensive player won it the year the Dolphins beat the Redskins 14-7, but I'm not 100% sure.
Maybe if he shows up for a full season next year he will have a shot. He is a great, great talent. Hopefully he's done being a putz about the contract stuff. Barring a career injury he will have his time in the sun. Should have been last year for sure.
